The truth about reselling clothes

RESELLING clothing can be difficult.

I’ve only used two apps which was Depop and Vinted. I’m not an expert but from my experience I found that #Vinted was the easiest to use.

⭐️Overall rating: 5/5

The app Vinted doesn’t take any of the money that you make, they give you shipping labels that you can print out and you don’t have to pay for, and you can set your own prices and discounts. There aren’t any cons that I have found about this app.

... Read moreHey everyone! Following up on my initial thoughts about reselling clothes, I wanted to dive deeper into the nitty-gritty, especially for those wondering if Depop or Vinted is truly better, and how to actually make sales. When I first started, like many of you, I had a pile of 'preloved clothing' just waiting for a new home, and apps seemed like the perfect solution. My journey started with both Depop and Vinted, and while my initial post highlighted Vinted's no-fees advantage, it's worth exploring when each platform shines. For those asking 'is Depop better than Vinted,' the answer truly depends on what you're selling. Depop often feels more like a social media platform, attracting a younger, fashion-forward crowd. It's fantastic for unique vintage finds, trendy Y2K pieces, streetwear, or even curated bundles of specific aesthetics. However, Depop does take a 10% commission on sales, which can add up. If you're looking to sell 'affordable kids clothes online' or more general high-street fashion, Vinted's commission-free model often makes it more appealing for everyday items, especially if you're aiming for quick sales without the headache of calculating fees. So, if you're thinking of moving from 'Depop to Vinted' or 'Vinted to Depop,' consider your inventory first. Now, onto 'what to resell on Vinted' (and Depop for that matter) – this is where strategy comes in! Beyond just clothes, I've seen success with 'K-pop albums' and carefully curated 'bundled items,' as mentioned in my notes. Think about items that are in demand: branded clothing, unique accessories, shoes, and even homeware can do well. Don't underestimate the power of a good bundle; buyers love a deal, and it helps you clear out multiple items at once. Based on my experience, here are my top tips for success, building on what I've learned: Step 1: BE PATIENT. This is crucial. Sales won't always happen overnight. Sometimes an item sits for weeks, then suddenly sells. Don't get discouraged; keep your listings active and refresh them regularly to boost visibility. Step 2: PROMOTE YOUR PAGE. Just listing isn't enough. Think about how you present your items. High-quality photos are non-negotiable. I even experimented with short videos to showcase outfits, and analyzing the views, likes, and shares helped me understand what resonated with potential buyers. Share your listings on other social media platforms if you have them – a little cross-promotion goes a long way! Step 3: Who is your Audience? How to attract them? This is key to making consistent sales. Use relevant 'hashtags and keywords' in your descriptions. If you're selling a Y2K top, think: #Y2Kfashion #VintageTop #NoughtiesStyle. If it's a specific brand, tag it. Research what people are searching for. For example, my 'K-pop albums' sold because I used very specific artist and album hashtags. Understanding who wants your items helps you tailor your listing. LASTLY: Set reasonable prices. This might seem obvious, but it’s a common pitfall. While you want to make a profit, trying to sell 'preloved clothing' at retail price is often unrealistic and will deter buyers. Research similar items on the platform, consider wear and tear, and factor in potential bundling deals. Offering a slight discount for bundles or being open to reasonable offers can significantly speed up your sales. Ultimately, both 'Vinted Depop' offer great opportunities to declutter and earn some extra cash. By understanding their nuances, knowing what to sell, and applying these practical tips, you can transform your reselling journey from a struggle into a rewarding side hustle!
