When I first started noticing stubborn dark skin patches on my body, it was really frustrating. I tried so many things, but nothing seemed to make a significant difference until I stumbled upon glycolic acid. It started when I was looking for an alternative to aluminum deodorants because of sensitivity. That's when I learned about glycolic acid's amazing ability to fight odor by lowering the skin's pH, making it a less hospitable environment for odor-causing bacteria. But the biggest surprise for me was its powerful effect on fading dark marks! I had heard about it for facial hyperpigmentation, but using it all over my body has truly been a game-changer. So, how exactly does glycolic acid help with dark spots? It’s an Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) derived from sugarcane. Its magic lies in its ability to exfoliate the top layer of your skin. It works by dissolving the 'glue' that holds dead skin cells together, allowing them to shed more easily. When you have dark spots, these are essentially areas with an accumulation of pigmented skin cells. By gently encouraging cellular turnover, glycolic acid helps to bring newer, less pigmented skin cells to the surface, gradually fading those stubborn dark patches over time.
