私もオリーブを育て始めてから、やはり日当たりの重要性を強く実感しました。特にベランダで育てる場合、1日6時間以上の直射日光がオリーブの健康な成長には欠かせません。日陰で育てると枝がヒョロヒョロになりやすく、実をつけるのも難しくなるようです。 肥料に関しては、記事内で紹介されている「濃い有機」の肥料を使っています。500gのパッケージで、『4:6:2』の配合とあり、有機成分が多いため安心して使用できました。定期的に与えることで葉の色つやも良く、元気に育っています。 水やりはメリハリをつけるのがポイント。土が乾いてからたっぷり水をあげると、根腐れを防げます。夏は乾きやすいので毎日のチェックが大切ですし、冬は控えめにして調整しています。湿った状態が続くと根が弱るので気をつけましょう。 剪定は春か秋に軽く内側に向いた枝をカットするだけで、風通しが良くなり病害虫の予防にもなります。植え替えは根詰まりを防ぐために2～3年に1回、春に少し大きめの鉢に変えています。 私の経験からは、適切な鉢底石の設置や水はけの良い土も見逃せないポイントです。赤玉土や果樹用土を混ぜてあげることで水はけが良くなり、根が健康に育ちます。オリーブは育てるのが楽しい植物で、剪定や世話をする時間もリフレッシュに繋がります。ぜひ、みなさんも自宅で育ててみてくださいね。
