working on a short anime project. like and comment

... Read moreHey everyone! So, as you might've seen, I'm deep into working on my short ANIME PROJECT, and it's been an incredible journey so far. One of the most exciting parts is definitely the Reference gathering phase. Before I even put pencil to paper (or stylus to tablet!), I spend so much time looking at different styles and artists to spark my creativity. Lately, I've been completely obsessed with exploring different art styles, especially drawing inspiration from masters like Yoh Yoshinari. His work is just breathtaking – the way he uses dynamic lines, expressive character designs, and that incredible sense of movement. It's not about copying, but understanding the principles behind his unique aesthetic. How does he convey emotion? What makes his action sequences so impactful? Studying artists like Yoshinari helps me think about how to inject more personality and energy into my own character designs and overall visual language for my project. It’s like a masterclass in controlled chaos! Beyond individual artists, I also look at existing anime for inspiration. For instance, the xxxHolic miniseries has always fascinated me with its distinct atmosphere and character silhouettes. I love how it uses symbolism and a slightly more stylized, elongated aesthetic to tell its stories. When I'm planning out scenes or thinking about character poses, I sometimes re-watch parts of shows like xxxHolic, pausing (literally hitting "Pause"!) to really analyze the composition of a shot or the way a character expresses an emotion. It's a goldmine for understanding visual storytelling. And speaking of tools, I've been experimenting with incorporating 3D elements into my workflow. While my heart is in 2D animation, modern software can really speed things up. I've heard amazing things about using Blender for anime-style rendering, and there are even techniques sometimes referred to as "Animeasy Blender" that focus on achieving that specific look. It's not about making a full 3D anime, but rather using Blender for things like blocking out complex scenes, generating background elements, or even as a base for character models that you then animate and draw over in 2D. It’s all about finding smart ways to enhance the anime project without losing that hand-drawn charm. Creating an animation from scratch is a huge undertaking, but it's also incredibly rewarding. My biggest tip for anyone thinking of starting their own anime project is to break it down into manageable steps. Don't be afraid to experiment with different techniques and always seek feedback. It’s a learning process, and every frame you draw, every scene you plan, brings your vision closer to reality. What are some of your favorite animation techniques or artists that inspire your projects?
