Postpartum Support
I’m tired of the fear-mongering surrounding postpartum.
Not because postpartum can’t be hard…it absolutely can. I’ve experienced postpartum depression before. I know the fear, the anxiety, and how isolating those days can feel.
But somewhere along the way, it feels like we’ve stopped making room for the stories that are filled with joy, healing, and support.
This time, my story looks different.
Everyone asks how I’m doing.
They ask about the baby.
They ask about my husband.
They ask about our daughter, who is learning to become a big sister.
My husband constantly asks,
“Are you okay?”
“What do you need?”
“How can I help?”
He encourages me to get out of the house, makes sure I’ve eaten, and reminds me that I matter too.
My parents check on us every day.
My father-in-law calls just to see how we’re doing.
Our family checks in.
Our friends ask if we need anything.
I’ve been surrounded by love.
Maybe it’s because this is our second baby.
Maybe it’s because we’ve learned from our first postpartum journey.
Maybe we’ve all realized that taking care of Mom is one of the best ways to take care of Baby.
Not every postpartum journey is doom and gloom.
Not every mother is drowning.
Not every marriage falls apart.
Not every sibling struggles.
Not every mom is forgotten.
Sometimes postpartum looks like healing.
Sometimes it looks like peace.
Sometimes it looks like a husband holding your hand while your toddler curls up next to the new baby.
I know not everyone has a village, and I wish every mother did.
But if you do have one, don’t let the internet convince you that you should spend these precious weeks waiting for everything to fall apart.
It’s okay to enjoy this season.
It’s okay to feel supported.
It’s okay to say, “I’m doing well.”
Those stories deserve to be told, too. 🤍
