‼️ TIKTOK & LEMON8 BANNED ‼️
You’ve probably heard about the potential TikTok ban circulating the news. There’s a lot of confusion out there, so I wanted to share what I know from my perspective.
To me, this ban feels more like an attempt by the US to control the narrative and limit our free speech. With so many real issues like rising homelessness and corporate ownership of homes, it feels frustrating that the focus is on TikTok…Right now people are having trouble finding employment, saving money, paying their bills, and don’t even get me started on the food issues. Not to mention how many people will lose income because they depend on TikTok to make money or attract customers for their small businesses, but let’s focus on banning this app?! It is genuinely so out of touch and disheartening.
It seems like the push to ban TikTok isn’t just about protecting us from data breaches but about protecting corporate interests. Facebook, for instance, reportedly tried to buy TikTok. When that didn’t work out, it looks like they pushed for the ban instead. This whole situation feels more about money and influence than national security. It's ironic how the idea of "freedom of speech" is so often disregarded when it doesn't fit the agenda.
Other platforms like Facebook and Instagram handle user data in similar ways, yet they’re not facing the same scrutiny. And don't forget, electric cars are also collecting and sending personal information, but that issue doesn’t get as much attention. Temu faced legit criticism for data security issues, but TikTok is still in the spotlight. Are we not to acknowledge that privacy concerns come with any access to phones, social media, or the internet in general?
However, did you know ByteDance, which owns TikTok, also owns Lemon8? Could the government go after Lemon8 next, considering the pattern & its tie to ByteDance??
If TikTok does get banned, it might be time to move to another platform where you can still engage with your audience. It’s a tough situation, but being prepared is key.
& Because Lemon8 is owned by the same company, I wouldn’t pick this app to go all in just yet. However I have heard that ByteDance is putting more distance between itself and Lemon8 than it did with TikTok. The App Store says Lemon8 is owned by a Singapore-based company called Heliophilia Pte so who knows.
If you think this ban won’t affect you, think again. It’s not just about losing one app; it’s about the bigger implications for free speech and social media.
