It’s Arbor’s world, we’re just living in it!

... Read moreOh, the joys of toddlerhood! If you're a parent, you know exactly what I mean when I say their 'helpfulness' can sometimes lead to the most unexpected, and often hilarious, situations. This past week with my little one, Arbor, has been a whirlwind of these so-called 'helpful things my toddler did,' and honestly, I'm still trying to figure out if I should laugh or cry. It all started when I walked into the kitchen to a peculiar smell. My heart sank as I realized where it was coming from: the microwave. And what did I find? A 'heated up dinner in the microwave Rubik's cube!' Yes, you read that right. She apparently thought her colorful puzzle needed a little warming up. The melted plastic smell was something else, and trying to explain why we don't put toys in the microwave to a two-year-old is a special kind of challenge. I guess she was just trying to 'cook' like mommy! Then there was the art installation in our living room. I stepped out for literally two minutes, and when I returned, our pristine beige walls had been transformed. Arbor had taken a permanent marker and decided to 'decorate the living room walls permanent marker art.' It was certainly art, but perhaps not the gallery-worthy kind I had envisioned. My initial shock quickly turned into a resigned acceptance, followed by an hour of scrubbing with every cleaning product known to man. Some marks, I fear, are now a permanent fixture of our home. And just when I thought the week couldn't get any wilder, I discovered our dog looking suspiciously full, with an empty, ripped bag of shredded cheese next to him. Arbor, in her infinite generosity, had 'fed the dog 3 lbs bag of shredded cheese!' The dog was thrilled, of course, but I spent the rest of the day worrying about his digestion and trying to figure out how a tiny human managed to haul a three-pound bag of cheese across the kitchen. It’s moments like these that make you question your child-proofing skills! These 'toddler adventures' are certainly unforgettable. While they test your patience and your cleaning supplies, they also fill your life with so much laughter and incredible stories. It's truly a unique phase where every day brings a new surprise, a new mess, and a new reason to shake your head and smile. If you're navigating the crazy world of toddlers, here are a few things I've learned that might help: Embrace the chaos: Seriously, some battles aren't worth fighting. Pick your moments. Document everything: These stories will be gold later, even if they're frustrating now. Take photos or jot down notes. Child-proof, then child-proof again: What you think is safe, they will find a way around. Lock cabinets, secure appliances, and keep markers far, far out of reach. Find your tribe: Connect with other parents! Sharing stories, even just a simple 'tell me your toddler adventures,' helps you realize you're not alone and provides much-needed comic relief. Prioritize safety: While a Rubik's cube in the microwave is hilarious in hindsight, always double-check for potential dangers. Keep cleaning supplies, medications, and sharp objects locked away. It's Arbor's world, and we're definitely just living in it – often cleaning up after it! But I wouldn't trade these crazy 'helpful' moments for anything. What about your little ones? Please, tell me your toddler adventures, it’ll make me feel better and remind me we're all in this wonderfully messy journey together! Share your stories and let's have a good laugh!
