Screen Free Toys To Get You Through A Snow Day!

Daycare closed and you’re working from home with a toddler? Deep breaths.

These screen-free activities have been a lifesaver for keeping my little one engaged (without the TV).

... Read moreAs a parent working from home while caring for a toddler during a snow day, I can attest to the challenge of keeping little ones engaged without leaning on digital screens. One of my go-to solutions has been using a variety of screen-free toys that encourage creativity and learning. For instance, magnetic wooden dollhouses and DIY magnetic play sets offer hands-on play that sparks imagination and fine motor skills development. I found that organized craft kits, especially those designed for ages 3-7 like foam sticker sets and craft kits with glue sticks, help contain the mess and keep activities manageable. Additionally, simple paper crafts themed around space or animals provide an educational twist that fascinates curious toddlers. The included write-and-wipe activity mats, like those found in some Skillmatics kits, make repeated learning fun and interactive. Shadows and opposites matching games also helped create engaging play moments that stimulate critical thinking. Trying these toys and crafts helped transform a potentially stressful snow day into an opportunity for quality bonding and skill-building. If you’re balancing remote work and childcare, having a ready collection of versatile screen-free options not only keeps your child occupied but also supports their creativity and cognitive growth without relying on TV or tablets.
