Repurpose this wig!
Friends I have to many wigs to count 😬 (a lot of them are LUVME wigs - the quality is amazing 🥲) so no I’m not going and buying another one, because …WE GOT HAIR AT HOME 🗣️
So I grabbed me one and did a little something with it, I need to finish curling her 🙃 but I tried something new and saved my coins 💕

You know that feeling when you look at your wig collection and think, 'I really need a new one,' but then you remember your budget? That was my exact situation! My personal mission became how to revive what I already had. Instead of splurging on a brand new unit, I decided to embrace the challenge: my mission to repurpose this wig! And let me tell you, it's totally achievable to make an older wig look fresh, natural, and even better than some new ones, all while saving your hard-earned cash. Here’s how I tackled it, step-by-step, to make my synthetic wigs look unbelievably real and soft. First up, detangling without damage is key, especially for synthetic hair. I've learned that you absolutely don't need fabric softener, which can sometimes leave a residue. My go-to method is to gently section the wig and use a wide-tooth comb, starting from the very ends and working my way up. For stubborn tangles, a spray bottle with water mixed with a good quality leave-in wig conditioner works wonders. Just a light mist, then comb through. This approach helps to soften the wig hair without making it limp or greasy, leaving it much more manageable and less like a 'fake wig.' Next, for that truly natural, soft feel, I give my wigs a revitalizing bath. Forget about a dry or ugly wig! I fill a basin with cool water, add a capful of wig shampoo, and gently swish the wig around. After rinsing, I soak it in cool water with a generous amount of wig conditioner for about 15-20 minutes. This really helps to soften the wig and infuse life back into those dry fibers. When it's time to dry, I gently squeeze out excess water with a towel, then air dry on a wig stand. This process is crucial for making synthetic wig hair feel incredibly soft and responsive to styling, making it look much better overall. Now, for the magic that makes a synthetic wig look real. It's all about natural touches. One of my favorite tricks to reduce that artificial shine many synthetic wigs have is a light dusting of wig powder or even a bit of translucent setting powder or dry shampoo at the roots. This immediately takes away the overly plastic look. For the hairline, I often pluck a few hairs to create a more natural, sparse front, and blend it with a bit of foundation or concealer to match my skin tone. This is essential for a wig install that truly looks seamless. If you have a curly wig and want it to look natural, finger-combing after drying and applying a light mousse designed for synthetic hair can really help define the curls without making them stiff. When it comes to styling, you might wonder, "can I use hairspray on a synthetic wig?" The answer is yes, but sparingly and specifically designed for synthetic wigs, or a very light-hold regular hairspray. For taming flyaways at the part or hairline, if you’re wondering what can I use instead of a wax stick for wig styling, I often use a tiny bit of non-greasy edge control or even a clear brow gel. These work perfectly to lay down those little hairs for a polished finish. And for curling, which was part of my mission with this particular wig, remember to use low heat settings if your wig is heat-friendly, or opt for steam rollers or flexi-rods for non-heat friendly synthetic wigs to achieve beautiful, natural-looking curls. Finally, maintaining curly synthetic hair or any styled wig is about gentle care. Store your wig on a wig head, avoid over-brushing, and repeat the washing and conditioning process as needed. By following these steps, you can truly transform and maintain your wigs, making them look fantastic and extending their lifespan significantly. It’s amazing what a little effort can do to repurpose a wig and give it a whole new life!
