Is escaping the 9-6 common?

✖️✖️Internships makes gen z realise they don't want a 9-6 in the future, working in CBD, sitting for 7hours each damn day. (This differs if they’re passionate abt becoming a lawyer/accountant/stock broker etc)

But what separates this 'want' into a reality is action. Who is bold enough to escape the corporate life and take a step by selling their clothes on telegram - starting a thrift store - starting a business. Be it dropshipping, investments, joining a mlm unconsciously LOL

Funny how our parents and the millenial generation would just suck it up and deal with their cards, just climb the corporate ladder. That used to be the "ONLY" solution to live a comfortable life and retire whatever not. At least, that's what we learnt, understood and supposedly follow

real experience pov yap:⬇️

Being a y3 student meant I had to go into the working field and experience it right? I've worked part time jobs before but this is DIFERENT. corporate office job meant slaving away like a dog for a company. Doing your best but still getting lectured. Becoming a fatass because you're just sitting down for like 7hours of your day. Most of my friends feel the same way - we do NOT want to resort to this life and wasting our 20's. Hence, we have to take action. whatever it is, take action to increase the probability of escaping this...miserable future. this is our only lifetime, why should we resort to being familiar and comfortable living a life not well lived?

(open to any business ideas 😆😆 i’m a marketing student )

this post is written from my perspective but maybe other generations reading can contribute your perspectives too!

... Read moreMany of us in Gen Z find the traditional corporate schedule stifling. The 9-6 routine, especially in office jobs, often leads to long hours of sedentary work, stress, and dissatisfaction. From my personal experience, working part-time jobs showed me some aspects of work, but stepping into a full corporate role was quite different — I felt like I was just 'slaving away,' which affected both my mental and physical health. What’s clear is that escaping this lifestyle requires bold action. Some of my peers have started to explore unconventional methods like selling clothes through Telegram or starting thrift shops. Others consider dropshipping or even investing. The key is to take the initiative to build something sustainable that aligns with personal passions and values. It’s also interesting to see how previous generations accepted the corporate grind as a necessity for comfort and retirement. But for us, that path feels less appealing—we want to live fully and not waste our youth in jobs that drain our enthusiasm. If you’re feeling stuck in a similar corporate routine, consider small steps to diversify your income or explore entrepreneurial ideas. Whether it’s marketing, e-commerce, or creative freelancing, there are many alternatives to the 9-6 that can offer more freedom. Just remember, the decision to escape the corporate life is as much about mindset as it is about taking concrete actions.
