When you decide to have a natural labor with no pain medicine, you have to prepare yourself.
I made a labor playlist with songs that would help me push through. For some people they may do affirmations but for me music helps.
When I would start to feel like I couldn’t do it, I would tell myself “you can do anything for 1 minute” “you are so close to meeting your baby” “you are strong, you are capable”
Repeating these in my head helped me a lot.
Have someone to do counter-pressure for you. My mom was this person for me. I had back labor and the counter-pressure helped relieve so much pain during contractions.
Make sure you have the birth team you want. A team that is supportive, encouraging, and knows your plans.
Having the right people surrounding you plays a huge role in how your labor/delivery goes.
If you are preparing for your labor, just remember to take it one minute at a time. You can do it. You were made to do it. 🤍💪🏼
During my natural labor journey, I found that combining several supportive techniques significantly helped me manage pain and stay focused. Creating a personalized labor playlist was a game changer. Selecting songs that brought me comfort or motivation made contractions feel more bearable, as the music distracted my mind and lifted my spirits in challenging moments. In addition to music, I also used self-affirmations repeatedly during contractions, reminding myself "you can do anything for one minute" and "you are so close to meeting your baby." This mental approach shifted my mindset from fear to empowerment, helping me endure the intensity of labor with more confidence. Another vital factor was having someone provide counter-pressure, especially since I experienced back labor. The firm, targeted pressure slowed down the pain's severity and offered significant relief between contractions. It reinforced how essential it is to have a birth partner or team that understands your needs and respects your natural labor plan. Finally, surrounding myself with a team that was encouraging, knowledgeable, and supportive made a huge difference. Their positive energy and belief in my ability helped reduce anxiety and made me feel safe and cared for throughout the process. For anyone preparing for natural labor, my advice is to take it one minute at a time, use tools like music and affirmations to build inner strength, and surround yourself with a loving, reliable support system. These elements combined gave me resilience and helped me embrace the powerful journey of bringing new life into the world.
