Why I choose to follow Jesus
We are all sinners. We are all imperfect. I was enslaved to my sin for years. A willing participant in keeping my sight clothed in darkness, shame, self-hatred, and doubt. So much so that the people around me that I called friend and gave love to called me by my sins. I began to take on those names, weighed down by those burdens until my spirit cried out in desperation for the One who made me. I had once believed no one was ever going to hear me, to understand me, or believe the testimony I have today. And then Jesus called me out. He called ME. He didn’t shame me for the sins I had once given into and committed, and even to this day as I struggle with sin he does not condemn me. He calls me not by the things I had done but by my name and who I am. He not only told me he loves me but showed me how he loves me thus freely giving me salvation. When I ignorantly thought no one understood, or knew all the burdens I carried he showed me he knew all of those things. Most of all he wrapped me in a love that brings me to tears even now. God’s love is a love I’ve been chasing my entire life without ever really knowing where to go until Jesus met me where I was at my lowest, where I thought my time on this Earth was over. And that’s when I realized that God’s love was chasing after me just as much, if not more. Everyday I am reminded that there is no one and nothing greater than God, that there is no one that loves me more than God. Even my parents who I know love me greatly, couldn’t show me the love God has for me. God saved me from death, and if Jesus turned from the grave and left it behind, I chose to follow him. I chose to follow the One who saved me from my grave. In sin there is only death but in Him there is only life. I chose life. I chose Jesus.
There is grace in life with Jesus.
There is mercy in life with Jesus.
There is love in life with Jesus.
There is purpose in life with Jesus.
I didn’t start truly living until I invited Jesus into my life, not only to be a part of but to surrender to.
