Flipped & Fabulous!

Okay, so you've seen my hot pink dresser glow-up, and trust me, it was even more fun than it looks! If you're thinking about tackling your own 'meh' piece and turning it into a showstopper, here are some extra tips from my DIY journey. First off, finding the perfect piece to flip is half the battle. I was specifically looking for a vintage dresser with a bit of character – maybe a curved front or interesting drawer details, just like my dark wooden dresser had before its transformation. Don't be afraid of something with a worn condition; those imperfections can actually add to the charm once it's painted! Look for sturdy construction, even if the finish is awful. The original ornate handles on mine were a huge bonus; I knew they'd pop against the hot pink. Once you've got your treasure, prep is key! Seriously, don't skip this step. I started by giving my dresser a thorough clean. Then, for that distressed paint effect that I love, a light sanding was necessary. If you want a super smooth finish, you'll need to sand more thoroughly and prime. Decide if you want to keep the original hardware – I loved my rose-shaped ornate handles, so I carefully removed them, cleaned them up, and planned to put them back. Now, for the fun part: picking your paint! I went with a bold hot pink because I wanted that 'main character' energy for my room. If you're considering a black hot pink dresser look, you could definitely paint the main body pink and then do the top or even some trim in black for a striking contrast. For my dark top, I chose a rich, deep shade that complemented the pink without being too harsh. I opted for a chalk-style paint for the pink as it's great for achieving that vintage, distressed vibe without too much effort. Applying the paint is where your vision comes to life. I did a couple of thin coats, letting each dry completely. For the distressed look, I very lightly sanded certain edges and raised areas after the paint dried to expose some of the original dark wood or previous paint layers underneath. This really gives it that aged, loved feel. Don't forget to protect your masterpiece! A good topcoat or wax is essential to seal the paint and protect it from everyday wear and tear. Finally, reattaching the hardware. My white ornate handles looked absolutely stunning against the new hot pink. It was like they were always meant to be there! And to truly complete the glam room glow-up, I added a cute headband organizer on top, just like you saw in the pictures. It's those little details that make a DIY transformation feel so personal and special. This whole process was such a rewarding experience.
