Mastery of none
Who told us we needed to pick one thing
and stick to it forever?
Who decided that to dabble, to change,
to let go of one thing and pick up another
meant we lacked ambition
or worse - were failures?
What if the opposite were true?
What if ambition isn’t rooted in consistency,
but in curiosity?
What if the fullness of life demands
that we let ourselves wander,
that we try, fail, start again,
and keep spinning the wheel of discovery?
One week, my meditation is the sunrise—
the quiet light softening the edges of the day.
The next, it’s dancing barefoot,
moving to the rhythm of something ancient.
None of it is giving up.
None of it is failure.
It’s a rotation, a toolbox of joy,
different conduits for the same essence—
growth, expression, life.
So why do we feel shame
in picking up too many things?
Why do we call it scattered
when it’s just the soul expanding,
reaching out to touch every corner of who we are?
There’s no rule that says you have to be one thing.
There’s no handbook that says you must master one art
at the expense of all others.
You are allowed to explore.
To be many things.
To change, to shift,
to let the seasons of your life
guide you into newness,
again and again.
Go.
Try it all.
You are not just one thing—
you are everything.
