Hospital Bag + Recovery Essentials for C-section

I usually post recipes, but today we’re switching it up because… C-section prep!

I’ve never had a C-section before. With my last pregnancy I delivered vaginally, but this baby has been breech since 32 weeks. So I had to completely change my birth plan and prepare for a scheduled C-section.

Here’s what I packed / bought for recovery 👇

🩷 1. Postpartum diapers

Way more comfortable than what the hospital provides. I’ll be using these + Frida Mom boy shorts.

🩷 2. Frida Mom Postpartum Kit

I bought this before knowing I’d need a C-section, but I still plan on using the peri bottle. I’ve also heard from other moms that the ice packs help with incision pain.

🩷 3. Extra ice packs

Again, mainly for the incision.

🩷 4. Comfy, soft, loose PJs

Nothing tight, nothing restrictive. Also… way better than hospital gowns.

🩷 5. Reading pillow (for home)

I’ve heard laying flat is really uncomfortable after a C-section, so this should help me relax in bed without straining my core.

🩷 6. Step stool

My bed is high and I am short 😂 This will help me get in and out of bed without hurting myself.

🩷 7. Frida Mom C-section silicone strips

I’ve heard these help with healing once the doctor gives the okay (usually around 2-3 weeks postpartum).

✨ Still adding:

• Gas-X & gum (for post-surgery gas pain)

• Magnesium citrate + Colace (because constipation after surgery is no joke)

This is everything I’ve researched to help make recovery a little easier. I’m honestly so nervous, but being prepared definitely helps.

🤍 If you’ve had a C-section, please comment and tell me if I missed anything! I’d love any tips or advice.

... Read moreHaving personally navigated the recovery process after a scheduled C-section, I can attest that thoughtful preparation truly makes a meaningful difference. One of the biggest challenges I faced was managing incision discomfort, and incorporating extra ice packs, such as the Up&Up Instant Cold Packs, proved indispensable for reducing swelling and pain in those first critical days. Comfortable, loose-fitting clothes—not just hospital gowns—were a game changer for me. Soft pajamas allowed me to move gently without irritating my incision. I also invested in a sturdy step stool to safely get in and out of bed, especially since bending or stretching was not advisable during early recovery. The Frida Mom Postpartum Kit, which includes a peri bottle and perineal healing foam, was surprisingly helpful even though I had a C-section rather than vaginal birth. I found that frequent gentle cleaning reduced irritation and promoted healing. For scar care, using silicone strips recommended by my doctor around 3 weeks postpartum helped minimize scar appearance and discomfort. Addressing digestive health post-surgery is critical but often overlooked. I used gentle stool softeners and magnesium citrate to ease constipation, which can be quite painful after a C-section. Additionally, having Gas-X and chewing gum on hand helped relieve uncomfortable gas build-up. Finally, I highly recommend investing in a supportive reading pillow or husband pillow to avoid lying flat, which is uncomfortable after a C-section. Prop yourself up slightly to alleviate abdominal pressure and relax more comfortably. Preparation eases worries and helps you focus on bonding with your baby. If you're planning a C-section soon, consider packing these recovery essentials, and don't hesitate to modify based on your personal needs or advice from other moms. Sharing tips and experiences with fellow moms can be incredibly reassuring during this unique journey.
