THEME PARK THURSDAY: Planning your WDW Itinerary ✨

2024/6/27 Edited to

... Read morePlanning a Walt Disney World vacation can feel like a full-time job, but trust me, with a solid strategy, it becomes an exciting part of the anticipation! As someone who's planned many magical trips, I've learned that the secret to a stress-free WDW experience lies in understanding the booking windows and leveraging tools like the My Disney Experience app. Let’s dive deeper into making the most of your planning timeline, especially for those highly sought-after experiences. Beyond just booking your hotel and transportation as far ahead as possible—which is key for securing your preferred resort and getting better flight deals—there are other details to consider at the 90-day mark. For instance, if you're thinking of a special tour, like the 'Keys to the Kingdom' tour at Magic Kingdom or 'Behind the Seeds' at Epcot, these often open for reservations around 90 days out. Similarly, if you want to attend a special event like Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party or Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party, tickets for these usually go on sale months in advance and can sell out quickly. Don't forget about unique experiences like a Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique reservation for little ones, which also follows this longer booking window. Checking the park hours for your stay well in advance is always a good idea, as they can fluctuate, helping you decide which park to visit on which day. The 60-day mark is arguably the most crucial for dining, especially for popular character meals or table service restaurants. I cannot stress this enough: set an alarm for 6:00 AM EST on your 60-day booking window! Some of the most in-demand spots, like Cinderella's Royal Table, Be Our Guest Restaurant, or Space 220, disappear in minutes. Have your My Disney Experience app logged in and ready, with your party size and desired dates pre-selected. If you don't get your first choice, don't despair. Keep checking back, as cancellations happen frequently, especially closer to your travel dates. Websites like MouseDining also offer free alerts when reservations open up. Now, let's talk about mastering Lightning Lanes and Virtual Queues. The morning of your park day is when the real-time strategy kicks in. If you plan to purchase Genie+, do so before 7:00 AM. At exactly 7:00 AM, you can make your first Lightning Lane selection. Prioritize the most popular rides in the park you plan to start in. Also at 7:00 AM, if there's a Virtual Queue for a ride like Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind or TRON Lightcycle / Run, be ready to join it immediately via the My Disney Experience app. These go incredibly fast. Remember, you can only hold one Lightning Lane reservation at a time (or after you use your current one) and you can make another selection either two hours after park opening or after you've ridden your selected attraction, whichever comes first. There's also a second Virtual Queue booking window at 1:00 PM if you miss the morning one. It's a game of speed, but with practice, you'll be a pro! Finally, beyond the bookings, consider your daily park strategy. Do you want to park hop? If so, remember it's typically allowed after 2:00 PM. Build in rest days or half-days by the pool, especially if traveling with kids. It’s easy to get caught up in doing everything, but sometimes, a relaxed afternoon makes for a much more enjoyable experience. Don't forget to pack essentials like a portable charger for your phone (you'll be using My Disney Experience constantly!), comfortable shoes, and ponchos for those inevitable Florida rain showers. By planning ahead and being flexible, your WDW itinerary will lead to an unforgettable, magical adventure!
