Proverbs 29:11

I like this verse because it reminds me that no matter how mad or irritated we can get it’s smarter to just pray about it and move on, even if someone says something smart, do you wrong and feel like they did nothing wrong, or whatever the case is, its better to just hold your tongue and if u want to say something come about it in a mature way instead of acting on intrusive thoughts/emotions just be the bigger person in every situation or try to at least. #verses #bible #Lemon8

2024/9/24 Edited to

... Read moreOkay, so I've been reflecting a lot lately on Proverbs 29:11, and it's truly become a guiding light for me. The part that really sticks out, and I believe it's what the image overlay on my post highlights, is: "Fools give full vent to their rage, but the wise bring calm in the end." When I first read this, it hit me hard because, let's be honest, who hasn't felt that overwhelming urge to just let loose when someone frustrates you? The original post mentions how it's smarter to pray about it and move on, to hold your tongue, and approach things maturely. This verse really underpins that. It’s not just about suppressing anger; it’s about choosing a wiser, more peaceful path. Think about it – how many times have we seen situations escalate because someone just couldn't hold back their initial burst of emotion? I know I've been there, saying things I later regretted, only to realize it made everything worse. What does "fools give full vent to their rage" truly mean? To me, it paints a picture of someone completely controlled by their immediate emotions. They don't filter, they don't pause, they just erupt. It's a raw, unfiltered outpouring of anger, frustration, or irritation. And while it might feel momentarily satisfying to lash out, the aftermath is often messy, damaging relationships, and leaving everyone feeling worse. I've learned that giving in to that impulse rarely solves anything; it usually just adds fuel to the fire. On the flip side, the proverb offers the antidote: "but the wise bring calm in the end." This isn't about being passive or letting people walk all over you. It's about strategic restraint, about choosing your battles, and about understanding the long-term impact of your words and actions. Being wise, in this context, means having the self-control to acknowledge your anger but not be consumed by it. It’s about taking a breath, perhaps stepping away, and then deciding how to respond in a way that actually de-escalates the situation, or at least doesn't make it worse. For me, applying this has meant actively practicing mindfulness when I feel that surge of irritation. Instead of immediately reacting to a cutting remark or a frustrating situation, I try to pause. Sometimes, it’s literally counting to ten. Other times, it’s mentally asking myself, "Is what I'm about to say going to bring calm or more chaos?" More often than not, the answer leads me to hold back or rephrase my thoughts in a more constructive way. It's particularly challenging when you feel someone has done you wrong and acts like they did nothing. My initial thought might be to demand an apology or confront them aggressively. But Proverbs 29:11 reminds me that my goal shouldn't be just to "win" the argument, but to foster understanding and, if possible, restore peace. Sometimes, being the "bigger person" means letting go of the need to be right all the time, or to have the last word. It means praying for guidance, as I mentioned before, and trusting that maturity will eventually lead to a better outcome. This isn't an easy path, and I'm definitely still learning. There are days when I fail and catch myself venting more than I'd like. But having this proverb, "Fools give full vent to their rage, but the wise bring calm in the end," as a constant reminder helps me immensely. It's a daily practice of choosing wisdom over impulse, peace over conflict, and ultimately, striving to be a person who brings calm into the world, rather than adding to its noise and fury. It’s about building stronger connections and finding more inner peace in my everyday life.
