How to take hair out! ✨

2025/3/27 Edited to

... Read moreOkay, seriously, who hasn't been there? You've had a gorgeous hairstyle all day, but when it's time to take it down, it feels like your hair tie has become one with your strands! I used to dread taking out my hair, especially after a long day or a workout, because I knew I was in for a battle with tangles and breakage. For years, I’d try to painstakingly unwrap those elastic bands, often pulling out chunks of hair and causing so much pain. It was frustrating, to say the least! But then I discovered a super simple trick that completely changed my hair-care routine: cutting out my hair ties! It sounds a bit drastic at first, right? But trust me, it’s a total game-changer for preventing damage and keeping your hair healthy. Think about it – those tight elastic bands, especially on tangled hair, can really grip onto your strands. Trying to slide them off often means pulling and snagging, which leads to breakage and split ends. By simply cutting the elastic, you release all that tension instantly, and the hair tie just falls away. No more pulling, no more pain! Here’s exactly how I do it to make sure it’s completely safe and damage-free. First things first, if your hairstyle involves bobby pins, always take all bobby pins out first. This is crucial! Bobby pins often anchor the style much more than the hair tie itself, and trying to cut the tie with pins still in can make things awkward and potentially lead to accidental snips. Gently unclip each bobby pin, open it up, and slide it out without tugging. Once the bobby pins are gone, focus on the hair tie. I usually grab a small pair of sharp scissors – I even have a dedicated pair just for hair now! Carefully lift the hair tie away from your scalp and hair as much as possible. Then, with a steady hand, snip the elastic band in one quick motion. Make sure you’re cutting only the elastic and not any of your hair. It’s surprisingly easy once you get the hang of it! The tie will then just unravel, and you can gently remove it. This method is especially a lifesaver if you have super tangled hair. Instead of trying to detangle with the hair tie still in, you remove the source of the tension first. After the tie is out, I then apply a good detangling spray or conditioner and gently comb through my hair, starting from the ends and working my way up. To further prevent future tangles and make hair removal even easier, I’ve also started being more mindful about the types of hair ties I use. Silk scrunchies, spiral hair ties, or even fabric-covered elastics are much gentler than traditional thin rubber bands. They cause less friction and are less likely to grip your hair so tightly that they cause damage. Also, ensure your hair is properly conditioned – well-moisturized hair tangles less! So, if you’re tired of the struggle and want to protect your precious strands, give this simple trick a try. You’ll be amazed at how much easier and pain-free taking down your hair can be!
