Express your emotions through art 🖌️

When you’re feeling sad, overwhelmed, like the world’s weight is on your shoulders. Sometimes the best thing you can do is draw. Taking care of yourself through drawing may not be your first thought, but it’s something worth a trying.

I have found drawing sad or angry helps me to express my emotions and allow me to take time to think about how I’m actually feeling and why I feel that way.

The drawing doesn’t have to look professional all that has to do is aid in your healing.

... Read moreI remember feeling completely stuck, like a heavy blanket had been thrown over me, making it hard to even articulate what was wrong. That's when I truly leaned into art as a way to navigate those tough emotions. It's more than just putting a pencil to paper; it's a conversation with yourself, a way to unpack what's going on inside. I've discovered that this form of "emotional processing" isn't just a hobby, but a vital part of my "emotional wellbeing." Often, when I'm overwhelmed, I don't even know what to draw. That's perfectly fine! Sometimes I start by just making random marks, watching how the lines and shapes evolve on the page. I might choose colors that match my mood – deep blues for sadness, fiery reds for anger, or swirling grays for confusion. There's no right or wrong here; the goal is to simply *let it out*. You can try abstract art, scribbling furiously, or even just drawing repetitive patterns. The act of repetitive motion can be incredibly calming, almost meditative, helping to quiet the jumble of thoughts and reduce overall stress. For example, if I'm feeling incredibly anxious, I might draw a tangled knot, a chaotic storm, or a cluttered room, allowing the visual representation to mirror my inner state. Once it's on paper, it often feels less overwhelming, almost as if I've externalized the feeling. Then, sometimes, I might draw something peaceful next to it, like a calm sea, an open sky, or a blooming flower, to visualize moving towards a more tranquil state. This process of creating "personal artwork" helps bridge the gap between abstract feelings and something tangible I can look at and understand. It's a fantastic way to "express emotions through art" without needing words. It's amazing how much "drawing helps with stress." When you're focused on the lines, colors, and textures, your mind has less space to ruminate on worries. It's a form of active mindfulness that engages your senses and pulls you into the present moment. I've found that by engaging in this "emotional processing," I often gain clarity about why I'm feeling a certain way. The simple act of creating gives me a sense of control when other aspects of my life feel entirely out of control. Don't worry about artistic skill; the beauty of "expressive art" is that it's solely for you. Whether you're sketching stick figures or intricate designs, what matters is the intention behind it and the release you find. So, next time you're feeling down, stressed, or just need a moment to yourself, I encourage you to grab some paper and pens. Just *draw*. Let your hand guide you. Think of it as a personal dialogue, a secret language between you and your inner self. You might be surprised at what insights emerge and how much lighter you feel afterwards. It's truly a pathway to better "emotional wellbeing," and a wonderful form of "therapy art" that anyone can embrace.
