Why I stay home (even though we don’t have kids)

WHY do I stay home even though we don’t have kids?

1. To spend more time with my husband: we’ve had opposite schedules for years. It was hard to stay on the same page and communicate when we saw each other once a week.

2. To focus on building an honorable life: we know the life we want to live/build, and that life is much more easily accomplished with me at home. I’ve dreamed of staying home for a long time!

3. To spend more time with loved ones: a huge part of the life we want to build includes having a village. It’s much easier to build that village with me home.

Do YOU stay home or dream of staying at home?

... Read moreSince sharing why I chose to be a stay-at-home wife even without kids, I’ve had so many questions about what it actually looks like day-to-day. It's more than just the three reasons I shared; it's a profound shift in lifestyle that allows for intentional living and a deeper connection to what truly matters. One of the biggest joys has been the transformation in my relationship with my husband. With our old opposite schedules, quality time felt like a rare luxury. Now, we start our mornings together, share quiet evenings, and even have time for impromptu dates. It's not just about seeing each other more; it's about building a shared life, having those deep conversations, and tackling projects together that we never had time for before. This daily connection has truly strengthened our marriage and communication, laying a solid foundation for our future. The concept of 'building an honorable life' might sound grand, but for us, it's about creating a home that feels like a sanctuary, focusing on our values, and contributing to our community. Being home gives me the capacity to manage our household efficiently, plan healthy meals, and ensure our finances are in order. But it's also about personal growth. I've found time to pursue hobbies I love, read more, and even volunteer. It's about cultivating a life rich in meaning, not just activity, and aligning our daily actions with our long-term vision. And that 'village' I talked about? It's flourishing! Being available means I can host friends for dinner, help out family members when they need it, and genuinely invest in our local community. It's about being present and fostering those important relationships that make life so rich. I've learned that building strong connections takes time and consistent effort, and being home has given me the gift of that time to truly nurture those bonds with our loved ones. Of course, not everyone understands this choice. I sometimes get asked, 'What do you do all day?' or 'Aren't you bored?' The truth is, my days are full! Full of purpose, creativity, and connection. It's a different kind of fulfillment than a traditional career, but it's incredibly rewarding. I've learned to explain that my 'work' is investing in our future, our home, and our relationships. It's about intentional living and setting a foundation for the family we hope to have one day. For anyone considering this path, even before kids, my advice is to define what 'an honorable life' means to *you*. Create a routine that supports your goals, find ways to stay engaged and stimulated, and communicate openly with your partner. It's a journey of discovery, and it's been one of the most rewarding decisions I've ever made. It truly allows you to live life on your own terms, shaping your world from the inside out and focusing on what truly matters to you and your husband.

Do Not Have Kids If…
1. You don’t want to feel everything twice. Because when your baby’s embarrassed at school, it’ll hit you like you’re the one standing there. When they’re sick and you can’t fix it, you’ll want to fight the air for not letting you trade places. And when they color all over your couch, you’ll be mad
