... Read moreAs someone who has closely followed discussions about retirement and economic policy, I find it deeply frustrating that working class Americans are being asked to sacrifice their hard-earned retirement years to support an economic system that heavily favors the ultra-rich. It’s not just a matter of extending working years by a few months or even years; for many, it means giving up the opportunity to spend quality time with family or enjoy the fruits of decades of labor. What’s striking is the massive economic potential that could be unlocked without pushing this burden onto ordinary workers. For example, delaying retirement by even a year is projected to add around three trillion dollars to the U.S. economy over time, generating hundreds of billions in tax revenue. But this comes at a huge personal cost to those who are already laboring past traditional retirement ages. Many women and men aged 65 to 74 are still actively working—not because they want to, but because they have to. On the other side of the equation, there is a compelling alternative that often gets overlooked: the ultra millionaire tax. Proposed repeatedly by leaders like Senator Elizabeth Warren, this plan targets only households worth over fifty million dollars, taxing money above that threshold at rates of 2% or more. For billionaires, an additional 4% tax kicks in—but crucially, this tax is on wealth beyond the first billion, meaning even the richest would likely feel minimal day-to-day impact. From my perspective, this approach makes far more sense. It generates trillions in government revenue without demanding sacrifices from everyday Americans who have little margin to spare. It challenges the status quo, where too often we hear calls for the working class to tighten their belts while billionaires continue to accumulate vast wealth. It’s important to recognize the human dimension behind these statistics. Retirement is not just a financial milestone—it’s an essential time for rest, family, and personal fulfillment. Asking someone to delay or forgo retirement because of systemic inequities underscores deeply flawed priorities. If policymakers truly want to bolster the economy and secure financial futures for all, focusing on fair taxation of the ultra-wealthy can be part of the solution. This ensures that the burden doesn’t fall disproportionately on those least able to bear it and upholds the principle that everyone should pay their fair share. In sharing this, I hope to encourage more conversations about economic justice and fairness in retirement policy—a topic that impacts millions but too often goes unheard amid political noise.

I agree with you! Oz is just another millionaire who thinks we are stupid. Elizabeth Warren is smart and we need to listen to her.
