The real reason you haven’t been able to lose weight 🥱 #ketocoachbre #ketomomma #startingketo #ketoforbeginnners
From my experience coaching people on the keto journey, one of the biggest hurdles is the emotional roller coaster caused by the number on the scale. It’s normal to feel excited seeing progress reflected on the scale, but when the scale fluctuates unexpectedly, it can trigger a spiral of doubt and frustration. This mindset is exactly what stalls progress over time. What I’ve seen repeatedly is that the scale shouldn’t be your sole measure of success. Instead, focus on how your clothes fit, your energy levels, and other non-scale victories like improved mood or stamina. When clients initially let go of daily weigh-ins, they often feel a surprising sense of relief and empowerment. Also, it’s important to understand that water retention, hormonal changes, and even muscle gain can cause the scale to jump—none of which mean your efforts are wasted. Binge-eating triggered by a disappointing number is a common setback that can be avoided by shifting your mindset to one of compassion and patience. Throwing out the scale, or at least putting it away for a while, helps many people refocus on sustainable habits. Tracking food quality, sleep, and physical activity provides a more rounded picture of health. If the scale causes more harm than good, prioritizing mental well-being alongside physical changes is key. In the keto community, we emphasize that weight loss is a journey, not a sprint. Each step forward counts, even if the number on the scale doesn’t always reflect it immediately. Stay consistent, be kind to yourself, and remember that true progress is deeper than just numbers.
