This is the 1st thing i learnt after dropping out

This is a video of me talking about what I learnt and how important it is for people my age to also be aware of what they should prepare for before heading out in the working field! Let me know your thoughts on this! #sg #GirlTalk #RealTalk #dropout #singapore

... Read moreDropping out of school can be a challenging transition, but it also offers valuable real-world lessons that aren’t typically covered in classrooms. One of the most unexpected but important things I discovered right after I left polytechnic was how essential clothes are in the working environment—not just any clothes, but the right kind that fits your age, body shape, and the professional setting. Before making the jump into the workforce, I hadn’t really thought much about my wardrobe. Like many young people, my closets were stuffed with casual wear that was perfect for school or hanging out with friends but didn’t translate well to a formal or semi-formal work environment. I realized that wearing unsuitable clothing could affect not only how others perceive you but also how confident you feel within yourself during workdays. One practical tip I want to share is investing time into selecting clothes tailored for work before your internship or job starts. It’s not about splurging on expensive brands but finding pieces that fit well, suit your personal style, and meet workplace standards. For example, you can check out stores like Cotton On or shop online to explore affordable yet appropriate options. Paying attention to color schemes and comfort helps build a wardrobe that makes you feel confident and ready. I also found that clearing out my wardrobe helped me identify what I actually needed. It turned out that only about 10-15% of my clothes were suitable for work, which motivated me to build a more functional collection. This step was empowering because it shifted my mindset from casual to professional dressing, preparing me mentally for the new phase of life. For anyone in a similar position—whether still in school or just about to enter the workforce—take this advice seriously. Building a work-appropriate wardrobe is more than just about appearances; it’s about cultivating the confidence and mindset to succeed. Dressing well can positively impact your attitude and how colleagues and employers perceive you. In summary, clothes truly do matter when starting your career. They are a simple yet powerful way to show that you are ready for professional challenges. Taking time to prepare your wardrobe ahead of your first job or internship can make the transition smoother and boost your self-esteem, making a big difference as you step into the working world.

One of the biggest lessons I learnt along the way —
especially from the direct sales industry — is that not every season is meant for results. Some seasons are meant for growth. After learning this from the industry, I started linking it back and applying it to other areas of my life and work. There were periods where things were slow — fewer
