Military Care Package Tips ♥️ Veteran & Milspouse

I loved receiving and sending care packages!

When you’re deployed or stationed far from home there is nothing better than getting a care package from loved ones. It is a HUGE MORALE booster and can keep a smile on someone’s face for a long time.

Some of my biggest tips are:

* Make them fun and personal

* Fill the box as much as you can. This helps things not move around inside the box

* Condense bulky items into smaller containers, like

Ziploc bags, to save space.

* Send them what they ask for! Sometimes they need the boring stuff like body wash

* Some might have access to Amazon or a store so don’t send things they can easily buy

* Decorate! You can decorate the inside of the box and use things like tissue paper to add something extra.

* If it is a messy item or a liquid...put it in a Ziploc bag first! I sent my husband MANY monsters and they always made it safely. I placed as many as I could inside a Ziploc bag and then wrapped them in bubble wrap.

* Send utensils if the item you’re sending needs them! Ex: cake jars they might need forks/spoons

* SD cards are fun if they have a device to view them. You can send SO many pictures and home videos to them which I think is amazing.

* Include extra Ziploc bags to keep snacks fresh and safe from pests.

* Don’t be upset if they share/trade with others! Doesn’t mean they don’t like or appreciate what you sent. They might just want to make a friend smile or try something new that they received.

* Care packages can take WEEKS to get to their destination. Pack your box full and send it 3-4 weeks before the date that you HOPE it will arrive.

* Don’t forget to fill out custom forms if package is going overseas

* Use flat rate boxes to save money (max weight depends on final destination. Ask your local USPS office for specifics)

Also, something to consider is...where are they?

Are they...

- on a ship/boat?

- overseas?

- combat zone?

This matters because it helps YOU decide what to send!

⛴️Ship = SMALL storage space, longer shipping time, may want to share/trade with others

🌊 Overseas = may want their favorite snacks from home (chips, candies, etc)

🪖Combat Zone = may need hygiene items, limited space, longer shipping time.

🎂Let’s talk cake 🧁

I was SO proud of myself for figuring out how to send my husband cake lol

I already mentioned it needs to be shelf-stable box cake mix and that’s top help prevent spoilage. You need the stabilizers and added chemicals to help it make it there before it molds.

⏲️ When it comes to baking your cakes the time is going to vary. You can follow the temps given on the box but just know that the time will depend on the size of your jar and the amount you put inside of it. Keep an eye on them and test them with a toothpick to check for doneness.

‼️DISCLAIMER‼️

I have NO clue if mine made it without mold. My husband and his friend ate them and they both said it DIDN’T mold, but I didn’t get to see it, obviously. So please let your person know if there is mold to not consume it and throw it away.

I could go on for days so I’ll stop here 🤓🤣🤣

Little background:

I served 5 years in the Navy

My husband is currently active duty and has spent 17 years in the Navy.

I’ve received many packages and I’ve sent a lot of them.

If you have ANY questions please let me know!!! Gift giving is my super power 🤣🤣🤣

... Read moreSending care packages to military personnel is a heartfelt way to show support, but planning can enhance the experience for both sender and recipient. Start by understanding the specific needs of the service member’s location—whether they are stationed on a ship, overseas, or in a combat zone, knowing their environment impacts what you should send. For packed items, focus on shelf-stable snacks, personal hygiene products, and lighthearted items that remind them of home. Including practical items like Ziploc bags for snacks and utensils can be helpful. Fun additions like photos, themed items, and personal stories keep morale high and create a sense of connection despite the distance. Consider seasonal themes for special occasions like holidays, birthdays, etc. Remember to condense items efficiently to save space and consider using flat rate boxes for shipping; this not only saves money but also ensures the best delivery time. Care packages may take weeks to arrive, so plan well in advance. A final tip: make sure your loved one knows that sharing or trading items with fellow troops is common and doesn't diminish their appreciation for your gifts. Ultimately, the goal is to create smiles and bring comfort to your military hero!
