I Quit my 9-5 teaching Job to be a freelance Artis

Im about to SPAAAM- I deleted most of my socials as I focus on mastering me but I just NEEEED a virtual journal so this shall be it. Imma spam this ho lmaooo. I’ve started taking better care of myself as I do away with the pressures of society and feeling like I HAVE to uphold this matrix. I want no parts and I’m not fighting myself anymore. As I claim one birthright at a time I’ll take whoever on the journey with me 🤗 I’m boutta post some outfits cause I’ve been experimenting with my style and make up so…let’s get into itttt yuhhh #diary #freelancecreative #blackgirlartist #downwiththesystem #iquit Tallahassee

... Read moreMaking the decision to quit a stable 9-5 job can be incredibly daunting, but for me, it was also liberating. I'll admit, stepping away from the familiar routine of teaching to pursue freelance artistry brought its own set of challenges and rewards. One of the first things I noticed was how much pressure had been weighing on me—trying to fit into societal expectations and feeling trapped within what I call "the matrix." Since quitting, I've started prioritizing my mental and emotional health. Removing myself from the classroom environment gave me the space to 'master me'—really understand my needs, ambitions, and boundaries. I even deleted most of my social media accounts to avoid external distractions and comparisons, which was a crucial move in focusing on my growth. Taking up freelance art work means every day is different and filled with opportunities to experiment, whether it's with my artwork, my personal style, or makeup. This freedom has allowed me to express parts of myself I had neglected before. Experimenting with outfits and makeup has become part of this self-exploration journey, fueling my creativity beyond just art. From a practical point of view, going freelance requires discipline. There’s no fixed salary, so budgeting and managing projects responsibly are essential skills I’m continuously developing. Networking online and locally (I'm based in Tallahassee) has played a big role in finding clients and collaborations, which I highly recommend for fellow freelancers. One unexpected benefit has been the reduction of stress and increased peace. Without the pressures of a traditional job, I feel more balanced and connected to my art. I’m learning to take life one birthright at a time—claiming my unique journey without fighting against myself. For anyone thinking of making a similar leap, my advice is to prepare, but don’t be afraid to take the plunge. Embrace the uncertainty because it can lead to growth you never imagined. Surround yourself with supportive people and create your own virtual journal or community to stay motivated. Freelancing isn’t just about work; it’s about reclaiming your life and passions on your own terms.
