Hey everyone! I'm so excited to share more about my latest DIY project: Tim, my amazing cardboard whale shark! You saw a glimpse of him, but I wanted to dive deeper into how I brought this ocean giant to life right on my wall. If you've been dreaming of adding a unique touch of beachy decor to your home or looking for a fun craft project, making your own cardboard whale shark is surprisingly rewarding. First things first, let's talk about getting started. For a craft like this, you don't need fancy materials. I mostly used some sturdy corrugated cardboard boxes I had lying around – moving boxes are perfect! You'll also need a good pair of craft scissors or a utility knife (adult supervision for kids, of course!), a pencil, a ruler, and some acrylic paints. For Tim, I used a beautiful deep blue and crisp white to capture that classic whale shark look, adding those distinctive white dots and lines as described in the image. Don't forget some strong adhesive, like a hot glue gun or heavy-duty craft glue, to assemble your pieces. I started by drawing the main body shape, then separate fins – pectoral fins, dorsal fin, and the iconic crescent-shaped tail. For Tim, I wanted him to look like he was swimming, so I gently curved some of the cardboard pieces. Once you have your pieces cut out, it's painting time! Then, I used a smaller brush to add all of Tim's white spots and the intricate patterns that make whale sharks so recognizable. Don't worry about perfection; handmade charm is part of the fun! Think about how the light will hit it when it's on your wall. Assembling your shark out of cardboard is the next step. I used my hot glue gun to attach the fins and tail to the main body. If you layered your cardboard, make sure each layer is securely glued. For mounting, I simply attached a picture hanger to the back with strong adhesive, but you could also use command strips if you want a no-damage solution for your cardboard shark for wall decor.
