Total Time 6 hours hrs 25 minutes
2 lbs boneless skinless chicken thighs
For The Sauce:
â…“ cup soy sauce low sodium
â…“ cup honey
3 tbsp hoisin sauce
2 tbsp ketchup
5 tsp garlic
2 tsp ginger
1 tsp rice wine vinegar
½ tsp red pepper flakes
2 tbsp cornstarch
Place the chicken thighs in the bottom of your slow cooker in an even layer. Combine all the sauce ingredients minus cornstarch in a small bowl and whisk to combine. Pour the sauce over the chicken thighs and cook on low heat for 6 hours or you can cook on high heat for 3 to 4 hours. After the chicken has cooked, combine the cornstarch and 2 tbsp of cold water in a small dish and stir. Pour this cornstarch slurry into the sauce in the slow cooker and increase heat to HIGH. Cover with lid and cook an additional 15 minutes until sauce thickens. You can either shred the chicken thighs in the slow cooker or serve them whole. Serve the chicken over steamed rice and top with sliced green onions and sesame seeds if desired.
Slow cooker honey garlic chicken thighs are a popular comfort food, loved for their rich flavor and tender texture achieved through slow cooking. Using boneless skinless chicken thighs ensures juicy meat that absorbs the savory and slightly sweet sauce made from a blend of soy sauce, honey, hoisin sauce, ketchup, garlic, ginger, and rice wine vinegar. The addition of red pepper flakes adds a subtle spicy kick, creating a well-rounded flavor profile. The slow cooker method allows the chicken to cook gradually on low heat, making it ultra tender and infused with sauce flavors. For those short on time, cooking on high heat for 3 to 4 hours yields nearly the same delicious results. Once the chicken is cooked, thickening the sauce with a cornstarch slurry enhances the glaze, giving it a luscious, sticky coating when poured over rice. Serving suggestions include garnishing with sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds to add freshness and texture. This dish pairs perfectly with steamed jasmine or basmati rice, absorbing the rich sauce for a satisfying meal. It’s ideal both as a family dinner and for meal prep since the recipe easily scales up and leftovers reheat wonderfully. For those looking to customize, incorporating vegetables like bell peppers or broccoli during the last hour of cooking can add color and nutrition. Additionally, substituting hoisin sauce with teriyaki sauce provides a different but equally tasty twist. This recipe stands out for its simplicity, requiring common pantry ingredients and minimal prep, making it accessible for cooks of all skill levels seeking an effortless yet delicious dinner option. In summary, slow cooker honey garlic chicken thighs combine convenience with bold, harmonious flavors, delivering a crowd-pleasing dish that’s both hearty and satisfying.
