Matthew 7:1-5 NLT 🫶✨🤍

2024/7/26 Edited to

... Read moreHey everyone! 👋 Today, I want to talk about a powerful passage that often challenges me: Matthew 7:1-5. The original post briefly mentioned "Wisdom: Do Not Judge Others," and honestly, it's a message we all need to revisit regularly. It's so easy to fall into the trap of looking at others with a critical eye, isn't it? Let's really unpack these verses and what they mean for our lives. Jesus starts by saying, “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” Wow, that’s a direct challenge! It's not about never having an opinion or discernment, but about approaching others with humility rather than condemnation. I've found that when I'm quick to judge someone else's actions, it often reflects an insecurity or a blind spot in my own life. The most striking part for me is verses 3-5, where Jesus uses the famous analogy: “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.” This really hits home. The OCR even picked up on "your brother's ey" for verse 7:3, highlighting this crucial part of the scripture. It's a reminder that my own imperfections are often far greater than whatever minor flaw I perceive in someone else. Before I even think about pointing out a "speck" in someone else, I need to deal with the "log" in my own eye. It's about self-examination first, cultivating a spirit of humility and self-awareness. Now, some might wonder, does this mean we can never address wrong behavior or stand for truth? Not at all. Discernment is different from judgment. Later in Matthew Chapter 7, Jesus talks about not casting your pearls before swine (Matthew 7:6). This isn't about judging people's worth, but about wisely discerning who is ready to receive spiritual truths and not wasting sacred things on those who will trample on them. It’s about being wise, not being harsh. I think of it as sharing truth with love, not with a gavel. So, what does this mean for us practically? For me, it means pausing before I speak or form an opinion. It means asking myself, "What's my motive for thinking this way about this person?" Am I coming from a place of compassion or criticism? It also makes me think about those moments of "little faith" – when I doubt God's ability to work in someone's life, and instead, I try to take control by judging them. This passage encourages me to release that control and trust God's process for everyone, including myself. Reflection Points for You: When have you been quick to judge someone, only to realize you had your own "log" to deal with? How can you practice more self-reflection before forming opinions about others? What's the difference between discernment and condemnation in your daily life? This passage from Matthew 7:1-5 is truly a cornerstone of wisdom for living a life filled with grace and understanding. It pushes us to look inward, cultivate humility, and extend the same compassion to others that we wish to receive. Let's strive to live out this powerful message, making our interactions more loving and less critical. ✨
