The performance of "Khon" in Thailand has been declared by UNESCO as "Thai Khon". (Khon, Masked Dance Drama in Thailand) has been registered as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity.

The performance of Khon at Sala Chalermkrung preserves the Khon identity in its entirety, encompassing both the performance's traditions and associated rituals (authenticity), the value of high art as part of Thai heritage (Thai Heritage), and its status as entertainment (Entertainment). It preserves the beauty of traditional customs, with both the style and postures emphasizing delicacy and grace. The performance features beautiful, fast, and concise movements. Live Thai music is performed, using narration and dialogue that demonstrates the art of vocal melody.

Synopsis : In the garden of Uma, the wife of the great god Indra, Hanuman wandered into the garden. Uma picked fruits to eat without permission. Uma cursed Hanuman to weaken her powers but was still compassionate and gave Hanuman a chance to regain his powers. When he met Rama, he stroked her head and tail three times. When Hanuman met Rama, he approached him with loyalty. Rama stroked her head and tail, and Hanuman’s power returned. Hanuman led his relatives and army to pledge allegiance to Rama. Rama ordered Sugriva and Hanuman to build a road across to Lanka. However, under the ocean, Suphan Matcha was leading his fish followers to throw stones to block the road construction. Hanuman then captured Suphan Matcha and was able to successfully build the road. Rama and Ravana then led their armies to fight each other.

Tourist information

Foreign tourists who purchase tickets to the Grand Palace can also take tickets to see the Khon performance at the Sala Chalermkrung Royal Theatre. Performances are held Monday through Friday, with three performances daily at 1:00 PM, 2:30 PM, and 4:00 PM.

(Performance length: 25 minutes)

There is a shuttle service for tourists, stopping in front of Wiman Thewet Gate, which is the exit gate of the Grand Palace (the shuttle departs 30 minutes before the show). Tourists can purchase tickets for the Khon performance only at the Sala Chalermkrung Royal Theatre for 400 baht per person.

ศิลปะการแสดงนาฏศิลป์ชั้นสูงของประเทศไทย

จัดขึ้นเพื่อเป็นการดำเนินการตามรอยพระ ยุคลบาท พระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัวรัชกาล ที่ 10 ในการอนุรักษ์สืบสาน และเผยแพร่ศิลปะการแสดงนาฏศิลป์ชั้นสูงของชาติไทย นอกจาก " โขน" ซึ่งเป็นนาฏกรรมชั้นสูงของไทยแล้ว สถานที่จัดการแสดงคือ ศาลาเฉลิมกรุง เป็นโรงมหรสพหลวงที่มีประวัติความเป็น มาอันยาวนานกว่ากึ่งศตวรรษ เป็นเสมือนสถาบันสัญลักษณ์แห่งการนำเสนอศิลปวัฒนธรรมประจำชาติไทย โดยการนำเสนอด้วยรูปแบบของการแสดงอันวิจิตรตระการตา ถูกต้องตามจารีตแบบแผน ที่ทั้งชาวไทยและชาวต่างชาติจะได้ รับชมการแสดงที่มีความเป็นเอกลักษณ์ที่บ่ง บอกความเป็นไทยได้อย่างแท้จริง

ทั้งนี้การแสดง " โขน " ของประเทศไทยได้รับ การประกาศจากยูเนสโก ให้ " โขนไทย " (Khon, Masked Dance Drama in Thailand)

ได้รับ การขึ้นทะเบียนเป็นมรดกภูมิปัญญาทางด้าน วัฒนธรรมของมนุษยชาติ (Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity)

การจัดการแสดงโขนศาลาเฉลิมกรุงนั้น เป็นการรักษาอัตลักษณ์แห่งโขนไว้อย่างครบ ถ้วน ทั้งในด้านขนบจารีตในการแสดงและ พิธีกรรมที่เกี่ยวเนื่อง (Authenticity) คุณค่า แห่งศิลปะชั้นสูงอันเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของมรดกไทย (Thai Heritage) และความเป็นมหรสพเพื่อความบันเทิง (Entertainment) ธำรงไว้ ซึ่งความงดงามตามจารีตดั้งเดิม ทั้งลีลาและท่วงท่าการแสดง ล้วนเน้นความประณีตอ่อน ซ้อย การแสดงมีกระบวนท่าที่สวยงาม รวดเร็ว กระชับ ดนตรีไทยบรรเลงสด ใช้การพากย์ เจรจาที่แสดงศิลปะของการเปล่งเสียงเป็น ท่วงทำนอง

โดยให้เห็นลีลาของผู้พากย์บนเวทีการแสดง ประกอบด้วยเทคนิคแสง สี ภาพประกอบ ตลอดจนฉากวิจิตรงดงามตระการตาอย่างสมัย

ใหม่ พร้อมมีคำบรรยายภาษาอังกฤษและภาษา จีนเพื่ออธิบายเรื่องราวตลอดการแสดง

“โขน” นาฏศิลป์ชั้นสูงของไทยซึ่งมีมาแต่ โบราณกาลถือกำเนิดมาจากการละเล่น ดึกดำบรรพ์ หรือชักนาคดึกดำบรรพ์ และการ แสดงหนังใหญ่นำมาผสมผสานกับการแสดง กระบี่กระบองจนเกิดเป็นการแสดงที่เรียกกัน ว่า “โขน”

เรื่องย่อ: ณ สวนของพระอุมามเหสีของ มหาเทพอิศวร หนุมานเที่ยวเล่นเข้าไปในสวน พระอุมา เที่ยวเก็บผลไม้กินโดยมิได้รับอนุญาต พระอุมาจึงสาปหนุมานให้อ่อนกำลังฤทธิ์ลง แต่ ยังเมตตาให้โอกาสหนุมานได้กำลังฤทธิ์กลับคืน เมื่อพบพระรามลูบหัวจรดหางสามครั้ง ครั้น

หนุมานได้มาพบพระรามจึงเข้าหาด้วยความ ภักดี พระรามลูบหัวจรดหาง พลังฤทธิ์ของ หนุมานจึงกลับคืนมา หนุมานนำเหล่าญาติมิตร

และกองทัพเข้ามาสวามิภักดิ์อยู่กับพระราม พระรามให้สุครีพและหนุมานไปสร้างถนนข้าม ไปกรุงลงกา แต่ที่ใต้สมุทรมีนางสุพรรณมัจฉา กำลังคุม บริวารปลานำก้อนหินไปทิ้งเพื่อขัดขวางการ สร้างทาง หนุมานจึงจับนางสุพรรณมัจฉาได้ และสามารถสร้างทางจนสำเร็จ พระรามและ ทศกัณฐ์จึงได้กรีฑาทัพเข้าต่อสู้กัน

นักท่องเที่ยวชาวต่างชาติที่ซื้อบัตรเข้าชม พระบรมมหาราชวังสามารถนำบัตรเข้าชม การแสดงโขน ณ โรงมหรสพหลวงศาลา เฉลิมกรุง เปิดการแสดงระหว่างวันจันทร์-วันศุกร์ วันละ 3 รอบ เวลา 13.00 น. /14.30 น. และ 16.00 น. (ความยาวการ แสดงรอบละ 25 นาที)

มีรถบริการรับนักท่องเที่ยว จอดรับ ณ บริเวณด้านหน้าประตูวิมานเทเวศร์ ซึ่งเป็น ประตูทางออกของพระบรมมหาราชวัง (รถ บริการออกก่อนรอบการแสดง 30 นาที) นักท่องเที่ยวสามารถซื้อบัตรเข้าชมเฉพาะ การแสดงโขนได้ที่โรงมหรสพหลวงศาลา เฉลิมกรุง ในราคาท่านละ 400 บาท
