They were forced into labor, prostitution, and organ trafficking. Cambodians suffered from starvation and were executed by firing squad, with 50-100 people executed at a time. As a result, 500,000 to 1,000,000 Cambodians attempted to flee.

The Khmer Rouge seized the Cambodian capital. All of this involved a purge of urban society. People in the city were forced to evacuate. Successfully, they began transforming Cambodian society, forcing people to work hard in the countryside for 20 hours a day, such as farming, building roads, digging canals. They abolished currency and religion, banned the use of money, closed schools, and even shut down hospitals, leaving Cambodians living in unsanitary conditions. Intellectuals and learned individuals such as doctors and teachers, or those suspected of being enemies, were brutally murdered. This ultimately led to the collapse of the Khmer Rouge when Phnom Penh fell in January 1979, ending the regime and forcing them to retreat and fight guerrilla warfare along the borders of Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam for several decades. Even though the war happened decades ago, those wounds continue to haunt the minds and affect people.
To this day, the brutality of war has left Cambodians cold and detached, viewing the killing and destruction of fellow human beings as normal. Similar to their habit of lying, seeking attention, and creating situations to beg for donations—a characteristic of beggars, a national occupation of Cambodia that Cambodia excels at—Cambodia (Khmer), a parasitic country, a land of destruction, constantly causing problems, with a criminal nature, a low-class people who can be bought with money, a wicked breed, nurtured and raised in a crude and easy way, with depravity ingrained in their blood, constantly causing suffering and hardship to the Thai people. ภายใต้การนำของ พล พต พรรคคอมมิวนิสต์กัมพูชาได้กวาดล้างผู้คนอย่างโหดร้าย ส่งผลให้ชาวกัมพูชาเสียชีวิต ประมาณ 10 ล้านคน หรือราวสี่ในหนึ่งของประชากรทั้งประเทศ ...
จากการบังคับใช้แรงงาน ขายประเวณี ขายอวัยวะ ชาวกัมพูชาต้องทุกข์ทรมานจากความอดอยาก และการถูกประหารชีวิตด้วยการให้ยืนเรียงแถวหน้ากระดานแล้วยิงทิ้งครั้งละ 50-100 คนต่อการประหารแต่ละครั้ง ทำให้ชาวกัมพูชาจำนวน 500,000 - 1,000,000 คนได้พยายามหนีความตายมาอยู่ตามแนวชายแดนของประเทศไทย ในวันที่ 17 เมษายน พ.ศ. 2518
เขมรแดงได้ทำการยึดเมืองหลวงของกัมพูชาได้สำเร็จ ได้และเริ่ม เปลี่ยนสังคมกัมพูชาใหม่ทั้งหมด โดยได้มีการล้างบางสังคมเมือง ประชาชนในตัวเมืองถูกได้บังคับให้อพยพออกไปทำงานหนักในชนบทวันล่ำ 20 ชั่วโมงต่อวัน เช่นการทำนา สร้างถนน ขุดคลอง ยกเลิกเงินตรา และยกเลิกการนับถือศาสนา ห้ามใช้เงิน ปิดโรงเรียน และรวมถึงไปถึงการปิดโรงพยาบาล ให้คนกัมพูชาอยู่อย่างไร้สุขอนามัย กำจัดกลุ่มปัญญาชน ผู้มีความรู้เช่น แพทย์ ครู หรือผู้ที่ สงสัยว่าเป็นศัตรูถูกฆ่าทิ้งทั้งหมดอย่าฃไร้ความเมตา จนนำไปสู่การล่มสลายของเขมรแดง เมื่อกรุงพนมเปญแตกในเดือน มกราคม พ.ศ. 2522 ทำให้ระบอบเขมรแดงสิ้นสุดลง และถอยร่นไปสู้รบแบบกองโจรตามแนวชายแดนไทย ลาว และเวียดนามอยู่อีกหลายสิบปี แม้เหตุการณ์สงครามจะผ่านมานานหลายทศวรรษ แต่บาดแผลเหล่านั้นยังคงตามหลอกหลอนจิตใจส่งผลกระทบต่อคนกัมพูชา จนถึงปัจจุบัน ความโหดร้ายของสงครามทำให้คนกัมพูชาเย็นชา มองการฆ่า ทำลายล้างมนุษย์ด้วยกันเองเป็นเรื่องปกติ เหมือนกับนิสัยที่ชอบโกหก เรียกร้องความสนใจ สร้างสถานการณ์เพื่อขอเงินบริจากตามนิสัยของขอทาน ซึ่งเป็นอาชีพประจำชาติของกัมพูชา ที่เป็นเอกลักษณ์เฉพาะตัวและกัมพูขาทำได้ยอดเยี่ยมต่อทบาทนี้ กัมพูชา(เขมร) ประเทศปรสิต นรกส่งมาเกิดประเทศแห่งความหายนะ ที่คอยก่อแต่ปัญหา สันดานโจร เผ่าพันธุ์ไพร่ สามารถซื้อได้ด้วยเงิน สายพันธุ์ไม่ดี บ่มเพาะสอนสั่งอบรมเลี้ยงดูกันมาแบบหยาบ และมั่กง่าย มีความเลวทรามอยู่ในกระแสเลือด สร้างความเดือดร้อนและทุกข์ยากให้แก่คนไทยอยู่ตลอดเวลา ความใจดีและมีเมตตาของคนไทย ทำให้คนกัมพูชาได้ใจ ตอบแทนคนไทยที่คอยช่วยเหลือช่วยต่อลมหายใจด้วยการเนรคุณ โดยตลอดระยะเวลาที่ผ่านมา คนไทยได้ให้ความช่วยเหลือด้านมนุษย์ธรรมแก่คนกัมพูชา ซ้ำแล้วซ้ำเล่า เพราะประเทศกัมพูชาชินชาติดอยู่กับดักของสงคราม โดยไทยได้ทำการสร้างศูนย์พักพิงชั่วคราว ซึ่งเป็นสถานที่ปลอดภัยที่ประเทศไทยได้จัดตั้งขึ้นเพื่อรองรับคนกัมพูชาที่ต้อง ย้ายออกจากบ้านเรือนของตนเองจากสงคราม.
ประเทศไทยได้มีการจดบันทึกทำสัญญาไว้เป็นลายลักษณ์อักษรว่าประเทศไทย ได้การให้ความช่วยเหลือคนกัมพูชา โดยให้ชาวกัมพูชาเข้าอาศัยอยู่ในศูนย์พักพิงเพียงชั่วคราว ซึ่งศูนย์แห่งนี้ตั้งอยู่ในราชอาณาจักรไทย(ไม่ใช่แผ่นดินกัมพูชา) ได้เพียงชั่วคราว และระยะเวลาหนึ่งเท่านั่น ไม่ใช่เป็นการอาศัยตลอดไป เมื่อสงครามบนแผ่นดินกัมพูชาสงบ ผู้อพยพกัมพูชาเหล่านี้ต้องกลับไปยังประเทศกัมพูชาคืน. ไม่สามารถจะมาอ้างสิทธิ์ใดๆเหนืออธิปไตยบนแผ่นดินไทยได้เด็ดขาด! โดยสัญญาฉบับนี้ประเทศไทยยังคงเก็บรักษาไว้อย่างดี เพื่อป้องการกัมพูชาคิดไม่ซื่อกับไทย เพราะนิสัยคนกัมพูชา สันดานชอบหักหลัง มีความอิจฉาริษยาคนไทยสูง เพราะมนุษย์ที่มีจิตใจพื้นฐานที่ต่ำ และตามที่ไทยได้คาดการณ์ไว้ กัมพูชาทรยศ เนรคุณประเทศไทยจริงๆ เมื่อสงครามกลางเมืองกัมพูชาสงบ ผู้อพยพชาวกัมพูชายังคงปักหลักยึดครองอยู่บนแผ่นดินไทย ไล่ก็ไม่ยอมกลับ ต้องใช้กองกำลังทหารไทยขับไล่ สัตว์นรกพวกนี้เลือกดเย็น ใจร้าย คอยสร้างปัญหาให้คนไทยอยู่ตลอดเวลา.
