หลายคนที่เสิร์ช “ภาษาบอด” น่าจะอยากรู้ว่าเอาจริงๆมันคืออะไร แล้วต้องเริ่มแกะยังไงถึงจะไม่งง—เราก็เป็นคนนึงที่ตอนเปิดอ่าน ‘รจเลขกัมมันต์’ ใหม่ๆ ขมวดคิ้วหนักมาก เหมือนผู้เขียนโยนสัญลักษณ์มาให้แบบ “ไปตีความเองนะ” แต่พอใจเย็นๆ แล้วลองไล่ดูทีละชิ้น มันเริ่ม “เป็นระบบ” มากขึ้น และกลายเป็นส่วนที่สนุกที่สุดของเล่มเลย ภาษาบอด (ในบริบทนิยาย/ปริศนา) มักถูกใช้เป็น “รหัส” ที่แทนเสียงหรือคำ โดยอาศัยสัญลักษณ์บางอย่างมาบอกใบ้ เช่น ตำแหน่งวรรณยุกต์ การเน้นเสียง หรือรูปแบบการเรียงตัวของเครื่องหมาย ให้คนอ่านค่อยๆ เดาว่า 1 ชุดสัญลักษณ์รวมกันเป็น 1 คำได้ยังไง ตอนแรกเราเข้าใจว่ามันต้องเกี่ยวกับวรรณยุกต์แน่ๆ แต่ยังไม่รู้ว่าจะ “ประกอบเป็นคำ” ยังไง จนเริ่มสังเกตว่าผู้เขียนให้เบาะแสกระจายไว้ในเรื่องตลอด ไม่ได้ปล่อยให้เดาแบบไร้ทิศทาง วิธีที่เราใช้แก้ (เหมาะกับคนที่อยากลองด้วยตัวเองแบบไม่ต้องพึ่งเฉลย) คือ 1) แยกสัญลักษณ์ออกเป็นหน่วยเล็กๆ ก่อน อย่าเพิ่งพยายามเดาทั้งประโยค ให้เริ่มจากคำสั้นๆ ที่คาดเดาง่าย เช่น คำที่น่าจะซ้ำบ่อยในบริบทนั้น 2) หา “แพตเทิร์นซ้ำ” ถ้ารหัสชุดเดิมโผล่หลายครั้ง มันมักแทนคำเดียวกันหรือเสียงใกล้กัน จดไว้เหมือนทำตารางคำศัพท์ 3) ใช้บริบทช่วยเดา เหมือนเล่นครอสเวิร์ด—บางครั้งไม่ต้องรู้ทุกตัว แต่อ่านรอบประโยคแล้วเดาได้ว่าควรเป็นคำแนวไหน 4) อย่ากดดันตัวเองให้ถูกทั้งหมด เราเคยจับเวลาแก้เล่นๆ (มีช่วงนึงแก้อยู่ประมาณยี่สิบกว่านาที) พอเริ่มสนุกกับกระบวนการ ต่อให้ยังไม่ครบก็เอนจอยมาก สิ่งที่ทำให้ภาษาบอดใน ‘รจเลขกัมมันต์’ เวิร์กสำหรับเรา คือมันไม่ได้มาเพื่อเท่เฉยๆ แต่เชื่อมกับ “หลักฐาน” และ “วิธีลงมือของฆาตกร” ทำให้ทุกครั้งที่แกะได้เหมือนเราเก็บแต้มเบาะแสเพิ่ม แล้วพอถึงจุดเฉลยจะรู้สึกว่า อ๋อ…คำตอบมันอยู่มาตั้งแต่ต้นจริงๆ ถ้าคุณเป็นสายสืบสวนที่ชอบแกะรหัส ชอบตามเก็บคำใบ้ หรืออยากลองอ่านแนวที่มีปริศนาภาษาบอดเป็นกิมมิกหลัก เล่มนี้ถือว่าเริ่มต้นได้ดีเลย แรกๆ อาจหลงทางนิดนึง แต่พอจับทางได้จะเปิดต่อรัวๆ แบบหยุดยากมาก
