... Read moreI recently tried the $9.90 three-course set meal at Benjamin Barker Recreational Club Store after hearing about it on TikTok, and I must say, it exceeded my expectations. One of the highlights for me was the slipper lobster pasta — the pasta was perfectly al dente, and the seafood portion was generous. The sauce had a mild spicy kick, adding an exciting flavor punch without overwhelming the dish.
The salmon ochazuke was a standout as well. Unlike many broth dishes I’ve had before, it wasn’t overly salty, which made it very comforting to eat. The generous slab of salmon made it feel very satisfying and worth the price. Complementing these dishes were two lightly crispy gyozas topped with spicy oil and vinegar, which provided a nice contrast in texture and flavor, followed by a fresh garden salad that balanced the richness of the main courses.
Parking the value aside, the dining experience was pleasant despite a brief 20-minute queue on a Friday afternoon around 1pm. Once seated, the food arrived quickly and was served hot, which speaks to the efficient service. If you want to mix it up, there’s also an option to upgrade to a steak for an additional $3, which I’ve heard from other diners is quite good.
This set meal deal is available only on weekdays from 11am to 5pm and excludes public holidays, making it a great midday treat especially for lunch breaks or casual foodie outings. From my experience, the quality and quantity of food definitely give you good bang for your buck, making it a wonderful casual dining option if you enjoy seafood and Japanese-inspired dishes.
If you’re a fan of discovering affordable yet delicious meals around town, this $9.90 three-course set is definitely worth checking out. Just be prepared for a short wait during peak hours, and head there hungry!
