✨If I tell Book Review✨

⭐️ Rating: 5/5

Such a quick read! Only 13 chapters plus an epilogue. I read this to get me out of a reading slump and it work perfectly!

✨Here is the synopsis:✨

My name is Jenna.

I'm sixteen years old.

And I think my dad is a serial killer.

On a muggy summer afternoon in Upstate New York, sixteen-year-old Jenna Cooper is swimming in a lake when a murdered girl is found nearby, pulled from that very same lake. The next day, the body of another girl is discovered a couple of miles away. Soon, more bodies are found. All are girls in their teens or early twenties, and they were all killed in the same distinctive manner.

As police race to solve these horrible crimes, Jenna finds clues that make her wonder if her father might be the killer. Although she is terrified to believe her dad could be a murderer, she is determined to find out the truth, no matter what it is.

But her quest for the truth is about to land her in a makeshift prison, at the mercy of a serial killer. Will she find a way to escape or will she be the next to die?

... Read moreAs a fellow bookworm constantly searching for that next unputdownable read, let me tell you, 'If I Tell' by J.W. Lynne is an absolute gem. I picked this up hoping it would be a mystery/thriller strong enough to break a stubborn reading slump I'd been in, and oh boy, did it deliver! From the very first page, I was hooked by the chilling premise: a teenage girl, Jenna, suspects her own father might be the serial killer terrorizing their small town. Talk about an intense setup! What truly makes this book shine isn't just the suspense of catching a killer, but the deeply unsettling psychological burden Jenna carries. Imagine the sheer terror and betrayal of believing the person meant to protect you is capable of such heinous acts. J.W. Lynne does an incredible job of delving into Jenna's internal turmoil, making her quest for the truth feel incredibly personal and desperate. Each clue she uncovers, each moment of doubt, amplified the tension, making me genuinely question everyone around her, especially her dad. It’s the kind of story that lingers, making you wonder just how well you truly know the people closest to you. One of the best aspects for me was the pacing. The original review mentioned it was a quick read, and I completely agree – it’s only 13 chapters plus an epilogue, and each chapter is crafted to keep you turning pages. This isn't a book where the plot drags; it's a relentless, fast-paced dive into a horrifying situation. If you're someone who appreciates a story that gets straight to the point and keeps the adrenaline pumping, then you'll breeze through this. It’s perfect for a weekend binge-read or for those moments when you need a book to completely absorb your attention. The plot twist in 'If I Tell' is something to behold. Without giving anything away, let's just say it's woven so cleverly into the narrative that you'll be constantly second-guessing your own theories. The author masterfully plants seeds of doubt, leading you down several paths before revealing the shocking truth. It’s not just a simple reveal; it’s a culmination of tension and psychological warfare that truly pays off in the end. This is precisely the kind of honest book review I'd want to read before diving into a new thriller, highlighting that gripping, unexpected turn. Beyond the thrilling plot, the book touches on themes of trust, family secrets, and the courage it takes to confront unimaginable truths. It’s a compelling look at how far a young person would go to protect innocent lives, even if it means exposing their own family. If you're a fan of psychological suspense, domestic thrillers, or stories with strong, determined young protagonists, then you should definitely swipe this onto your reading list. It's a powerful and memorable read that will leave you thinking long after you've finished the last page. Truly a fantastic read for anyone looking to get out of a reading slump or just enjoy a truly captivating mystery/thriller.
