Healing comes in the smallest forms 🤍
This is Dobby.
He wasn’t planned.
He wasn’t “next.”
He arrived right in the middle of my grief.
Dobby’s story almost didn’t have a happy ending. He was originally acquired by unknown strangers as a feeder—but the snake refused to eat something so small, so gentle, so clearly meant to live. Those people brought him to a pet store instead of letting his story end there.
A few days later, we walked into that same pet store—not to adopt, but to buy a small “hospital” cage while my heart was still breaking. The staff asked if we would consider taking him.
The moment Dobby was placed on my shoulder, he burrowed straight into my hair like he’d already decided I was home.
They told us he was free.
They just wanted him to have a good life.
Since then, he’s been exactly what I didn’t know I needed. He tucks himself into hoodies, curls into my hands, and rests against my neck and chest—right where the grief lives. He doesn’t replace what I lost, and he’s not meant to. But he reminds me that love doesn’t disappear… it simply finds new ways to show up.
Healing isn’t linear.
Sometimes it looks like tears.
Sometimes it looks like a tiny grey rat choosing you.
Happy New Year. 🤍
