When I first started my mewing journey, I definitely thought the goal was to create this super strong 'suction mewing' effect, almost like my tongue was glued to the roof of my mouth with all its might. But after diving deeper and learning from experts, I realized that's a common misconception that can actually do more harm than good! The truth about achieving a proper 'suction based mewing' isn't about brute force. My understanding is that your tongue should naturally rest against your palette (the roof of your mouth) with a gentle, consistent pressure. The OCR in my notes even highlighted the importance to 'stop tongue suction' because people misunderstand it. It's not about creating a vacuum you can feel pulling intensely; it's about a light, full-surface contact. Think of it as your tongue gently 'kissing' the entire roof of your mouth, especially the back third, without any strain. Many of us, including myself initially, mistakenly try to 'hard mew' by pushing too forcefully. But as the article and even some of the visual cues from the OCR pointed out, this can lead to 'overdeveloped' masseter muscles. You know, those muscles at the back of your jaw? Pushing too hard there can ironically contribute to a 'square face' appearance, which is often the opposite of what we're trying to achieve with mewing. Plus, sustained, incorrect pressure can lead to 'pain' and even a phenomenon called 'sagging' over time, as it puts unnatural strain on your facial muscles. That's why 'soft mewing' is the key. It’s about conscious awareness of your tongue's resting posture. Focus on 'no pressure,' just a 'lightly' resting tongue. Imagine just holding a pea against your palate with the tip of your tongue, and the rest of your tongue naturally follows and fills the space. This natural, gentle hold is what encourages proper facial development and alignment over time, without the risks associated with forceful 'suction.' Now, about some of those other queries I've seen, like 'tongue splitting tiktok' or 'split tongue sucking' – those are completely different concepts, often related to body modifications or entirely unrelated practices. Proper mewing is a natural, non-invasive technique for improving facial posture and jawline definition, not about altering your tongue's physical structure. And if you're seeing 'tongue suction vibrator' in your searches, rest assured, mewing is about internal muscle engagement and posture, not external devices! To practice this 'no pressure' approach, I often remind myself to swallow correctly first. When you swallow water, your tongue naturally goes to the roof of your mouth. Try to hold that position gently after swallowing. Another trick I learned is to say 'N' and then hold your tongue in that position. That often puts the front of your tongue in the right spot. Then, consciously try to expand that contact to the back of your tongue without pushing hard. It should feel relaxed, almost effortless, once you get the hang of it. This isn't about forcing an uncomfortable 'suction mewing'; it's about retraining your muscles for a natural resting state. So, next time you're thinking about your tongue position, remember: it's all about gentle commitment, not intense 'tongue suction hold mewing.' Keep it light, keep it consistent, and focus on that beautiful, natural contact with your palate. It takes time, but the subtle, correct approach is always better than aggressive, misunderstood suction.
