Review of Lost in Translation (2003)
Lost in Translation is the story of Bob, a famous American actor who shot a liquor commercial in Japan because of good money, accidentally met Charlotte Emekan, who followed her husband to work in Japan, both staying at the same hotel and with negative loneliness, the young (old) girl met on a broken night. It was this short time that they shared each other's problems until they became mentally involved.
The best thing about this for me is not the music or the shooting of the music videos that anyone is talking about, but the atmosphere of Japan in the 2000s, so much so that I want to take this as a medium of instruction for people involved in soft power, how to convey it, besides trying to make their hearts fluffy.
It's both a stretch of Japanese people from foreigners, rice springs, a heart-fu scene of a protagonist trying to understand and learn culture, a puzzlement in the big play of Japanese people. You can see that he doesn't shoot travel advertisements to invite a visit to Japan.
But he shot the way people live in Japan and made it natural, sincere because it sucks, in which a Japanese culture that doesn't speak straight, gloomy, and doesn't try to speak English is a great backdrop when mentally unstable people from a openly cultured society like America have to live together temporarily.
It became the origin of the movie's title, in addition to referring to what fell during translation through an interpreter, as the original story shows in the iconic commercial shooting scene, Nick. It also meant an unsent feeling because it had something to block the protagonist to the family and heroine within the story.
Even so, I personally felt that even though the shooting method was very classy, the atmosphere was good, the meaning was good, but it was the same chill movie as Perfect Day, even though it wasn't as sluggish as the latter. 7 / 10
สำหรับใครที่เคยรู้สึกเหมือนมีเรื่องราวมากมายในใจแต่ไม่สามารถบอกใครได้ หนัง Lost in Translation (2003) เป็นภาพยนตร์ที่สะท้อนความรู้สึกนี้ได้อย่างลึกซึ้งและเป็นธรรมชาติ ผมเองก็เคยประสบกับความรู้สึกนี้ เมื่อต้องไปอยู่ในต่างแดนที่วัฒนธรรมและภาษาต่างกัน การสื่อสารล้วนมีช่องว่างและสิ่งที่รู้สึกนั้นไม่ได้ถูกถ่ายทอดออกไปทั้งหมด บ็อบและชาร์ลอตต์ในหนังเรื่องนี้เหมือนเป็นกระจกสะท้อนความรู้สึกของคนที่โดดเดี่ยวท่ามกลางความวุ่นวายของเมืองโตเกียว การถ่ายทอดภาพและบรรยากาศในหนังแสดงให้เห็นถึงญี่ปุ่นยุค 2000 ในมุมที่ไม่ใช่แค่จุดหมายท่องเที่ยว แต่เป็นชีวิตประจำวันจริง ๆ ของคนญี่ปุ่นที่บางทีเราก็ไม่เข้าใจอย่างลึกซึ้ง ความเงียบ เสียงรบกวน การไม่พูดตรง ๆ ของชาวญี่ปุ่นสะท้อนการปิดบังความรู้สึกในตัวเองและความลึกซึ้งในวัฒนธรรม สิ่งที่ทำให้หนังเรื่องนี้น่าสนใจมาก คือการสื่อถึงความเหงา ความไม่เข้ากันของสองคนจากวัฒนธรรมที่ต่างกัน แต่กลับสร้างสายสัมพันธ์ที่ซับซ้อนและอบอุ่นได้ในช่วงเวลาสั้น ๆ ความรู้สึกที่ไม่สามารถถ่ายทอดออกมาเป็นคำพูดได้เต็มที่นี่เอง คือสิ่งที่ Loss in Translation พยายามจะสื่อโดยเปรียบเหมือนสิ่งที่ตกหล่นระหว่างการแปลและการสื่อสาร สำหรับผู้ที่อยากเข้าใจชีวิตในต่างประเทศหรือหวังเห็นการนำเสนอวัฒนธรรมในมุมมองใหม่ ๆ ผมแนะนำให้ลองดูหนังเรื่องนี้ ไม่ว่าจะในเรื่องของธีมชีวิต ความสัมพันธ์ หรือแม้แต่การนำเสนอภาพที่ละเอียดอ่อนและจริงใจของประเทศญี่ปุ่น สรุปคือ Lost in Translation เป็นหนังที่ดูแบบชิล ๆ แต่เต็มไปด้วยความหมายลึกซึ้ง เหมาะกับคนที่ชอบหนังที่ทำให้คิดและรู้สึกมากกว่าหนังแอคชันหรือดราม่าหนัก ๆ
