Many may notice that durians periodically break young leaves, but do you know that, if the tree is complete and given proper care, durians can break young leaves, averaging about 5-6 sets per year, that knowing the leaf break cycle will effectively help plan water, fertilizer and plant nourishment.

1. Leaf growth cycle

In each leaf cycle (Leaf Flush), the durian leaves go through 4 critical stages, which have completely different nutrient needs and plant behavior.

2. Frequency of peak break

In general, durians break their young leaves every two months, but this period can be earlier or later, depending on many factors, such as:

- Does the tree have enough food to accumulate?

- Strong root system. Good suction for water and nutrients.

- Proper provision of water and fertilizer

- No diseases, insects or environmental stresses.

- If the tree is complete, the young leaf break is uniform. The leaves are large, thick and quality.

3. Number of leaf sets per year

On average, durians can break down about 5-6 sets of young leaves a year, but in some very well-managed gardens, water, fertilizer and root care, they can break even more. On the other hand, if a plant is weak, soil degeneration, root system breakdown, or experiences drought and rain in the wrong season, the number of leaf sets may decrease.

Leaf breaking is not based on time alone, but also on the availability of plants, including

- Water feeding. Consistent water helps the plant break down its leaves well. If dehydrated, the young leaves may be disrupted or dry.
