For a long time, I believed that if I didn't meticulously plan every single step, everything would fall apart. But then I encountered a profound truth: 'IF WE WANT GOD TO ORDER OUR STEPS, WE MUST FIRST SURRENDER OUR FEET.' This quote hit me like a ton of bricks, and it perfectly encapsulates what “Amen and ouch!” truly means to me.
The 'ouch' part? That's the ego, the fear, the ingrained need for control screaming at you. It's incredibly difficult to let go of what you think your path should be, especially when the destination isn't clear. Surrendering your feet means acknowledging that you don't always know the best way forward. It means trusting that there's a higher intelligence, a divine plan, that has your best interests at heart, even when you can't see the next bend in the road. It's about stepping into the unknown with faith, not fear.
But then comes the 'amen' – the profound peace and liberation that washes over you when you truly allow divine guidance to lead. It's not about becoming passive or giving up on your dreams. Rather, it's about aligning your will with something much greater than yourself. When I started practicing this, I noticed a shift. The constant anxiety began to lessen. Decisions, though still requiring discernment, felt more natural, less forced. Opportunities seemed to appear effortlessly, and challenges, while still present, felt less overwhelming because I wasn't carrying the burden alone.
So, how do we actually “surrender our feet”? It's a daily practice, not a one-time event. For me, it starts with prayer and meditation, simply asking for guidance and then quieting my mind enough to listen. It means letting go of rigid expectations and being open to different outcomes. It's about recognizing when I'm trying to force a situation and consciously choosing to release that grip. Sometimes it’s taking a leap of faith, even when it feels uncomfortable. Other times, it's simply waiting patiently, knowing that the right path will reveal itself when it's meant to.
This journey of surrendering is ongoing. There are days I forget, days I fall back into old patterns of trying to control everything. But each time I return to that core principle – letting God order my steps by surrendering my feet – I find myself back on a path of greater peace, purpose, and clarity. It's truly a beautiful, transformative experience.
