When I first heard this, it really made me pause and think about why I connect with the fictional personalities I do. It’s more than just liking their story or their powers; it’s about a deeper, often unconscious, connection to their struggles and triumphs. Think about it: why are we drawn to the underdog who constantly battles against overwhelming odds? Perhaps it’s because we harbor a fear of failure ourselves, or we identify with the feeling of being underestimated. We see their journey as a reflection of our own desire to overcome challenges, to prove ourselves worthy despite our doubts. That character’s relentless spirit becomes a beacon for our own hidden reservoirs of strength. Then there are the characters who project an image of unwavering strength, yet beneath the surface, they grapple with profound loneliness or the burden of impossible expectations. Do we see a piece of ourselves in them? Maybe we, too, feel the pressure to always be strong for others, fearing that showing vulnerability might lead to isolation or disappointment. Their internal battles resonate because they echo our own anxieties about connection and perceived weakness. What about the rebellious spirit, the character who constantly challenges the status quo? It's a wonderful way to use storytelling as a tool for personal growth.
