How I saved this sad pothos
I recently rescued a Marble Queen–Golden Pothos from my local grocery store. She had probably been sitting on the shelf for months, root bound with barely any soil, yellowing and browning leaves, and covered in dust. Discounted and sad, but full of potential. Most people would’ve walked past, but I couldn’t resist swooping in to save her (and get a new plant baby for the low-low ✨).
Here’s what I noticed right away:
• Root bound + low soil → not enough nutrients, so the leaves turned yellow.
• Yellow and brown leaves → a mix of overwatering and underwatering over time.
• Dusty leaves → blocking her from soaking up the sunlight she needed.
So I got to work:
• Gave her a gentle leaf-cleaning so she could breathe again.
• Trimmed off the yellow and brown leaves (once they turn, they won’t come back).
• Took a few healthy cuttings for sustainable propagation 🌿 Why buy new plants when one can become many?
• Left most vines intact, since I wanted a fuller, faster-growing plant instead of starting all over. (Those balding vines will push out new leaves if she roots well, and that means quicker vining!)
• Popped the cuttings into a jar of water and placed them on a sunny, but not-too-harsh, windowsill.
She still needs to be repotted (low soil-to-root ratio is a recipe for more yellow leaves), and I’ve already ordered a larger pot. Once it arrives, I’ll show you the full repotting process—so stick around if you want to see her transformation!
Right now, she’s already looking so much better, and I’m hoping to get as much growth from her as possible before fall slows things down. Less sun means slower growth, but I’m feeling good about her comeback. 🌿
