Repotting my Pothos
Repotting your pothos plant is a rewarding way to give it fresh soil and more space to grow. When repotting, first choose a pot that is 1-2 inches larger in diameter than the current one and ensure it has good drainage holes. Use a well-draining potting mix rich in organic matter to help maintain moisture without waterlogging the roots. Before repotting, gently remove your pothos from its current pot and carefully untangle or prune any dead or circling roots. Place a layer of soil at the bottom of the new pot, position the plant in the center, and fill around the roots with soil, firming it lightly as you go. Water thoroughly after repotting to help settle the soil and reduce transplant shock. Keep your repotted pothos in a spot with bright, indirect light and avoid direct sunlight for a few days to prevent leaf stress. This period is also a great time to inspect for pests and maintain proper humidity. Repotting is best done during the plant’s active growing season, typically spring or early summer, to promote healthy root development. Regular care after repotting includes watering when the top inch of soil feels dry, feeding with balanced fertilizer monthly during spring through fall, and occasionally cleaning leaves to maximize photosynthesis. By following these simple steps, your pothos will thrive in its new home and continue to add lush greenery to your space.
