Well, about 5000 and 6000, many people can recite the formula, but they don't really know the origin.

Principle first...

"Why 5000 / 6000 divisors?"

Because airlines and shipping companies sell space, not just weight.

Things that are "light but eat at" must be charged by volume.

So the idea

1 cubic meter (1 CBM) = how many kilograms is "hypothetical" for freight charges?

The number 5000 or 6000 is the value used.

"Plot of cubic centimeters = > kilograms."

🔵 Case 6000 (Air Cargo)

Use with General Air Cargo (Airlines)

Formula: -

Width x Length x Height (cm) / 6000

So what came the 6000 from???

Source: Standards of the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

International standards of aviation stipulate that: -

✈️ 1 cubic metre (1 CBM) = 167 kilograms (Chargeable Weight)

Reverse calculation: -

1 CBM = 100 x 100 x 100 cm = 1,000,000 cm ☆

1,000,000 × 167 kg 6000

So: -

1,000,000 / 6000 = 166.67 kg (167 kg)

So it becomes the denominator 6000.

General Airlines (air cargo)

Apply to: General Air Cargo / Airlines

🟣 Case 5000 (Agent air freight)

(Courier i.e. DHL / FedEx / UPS)

Use with Express / Courier

Formula: -

Width x Length x Height (cm) / 5000

So what's the source of 5000???

The Courier stipulates that: -

📦 1 cubic metre = 200 kilograms (Chargeable Weight)

Compute backwards: -

1,000,000 × 200 = 5000

So: -

1 CBM = 200 kg

The reason the courier uses 200 kg is because

✈️ use the plane + the package distribution car.

🛫 high space costs.

🛬 more speed-oriented than regular air cargo.

🛩️ want to control light things but big pieces.

Width × Length × Height (cm) × 5000

Used on: Express / Courier Works

🎯 Easy to remember

✈️ Air Cargo = 1 CBM = 167 kg ❣ 6000

📦 Courier = 1 CBM = 200 kg ❣ 5000

💵 choose a "greater" weight value between Actual vs Volume.
