First cruise
No BBQ for 5 days what could go wrong?
Going on a cruise for the first time is an exciting experience filled with new adventures, especially for food lovers who might be accustomed to their favorite home-cooked meals like BBQ. Being away from BBQ for five days can feel like a challenge, but it also opens doors to exploring a variety of other cuisines onboard. During my first cruise, I was initially worried about missing the smoky flavors and juicy textures of BBQ. However, cruise ships often boast a wide range of restaurants and buffet options that cater to diverse tastes. From fresh seafood to international dishes, there was plenty to try that broadened my culinary horizon. One highlight was discovering regional specialties, like dishes inspired by Montauk — a term I noticed in some of the ship’s menu offerings, paying homage to the renowned coastal town known for its seafood. The chance to sample these onboard was a treat and made me appreciate how cruises merge travel with gastronomy. Additionally, cruise chefs are skilled at crafting creative meals that satisfy cravings for comfort foods, even without BBQ. Grilled and roasted options are still plentiful, but often with unique marinades and spices that bring new flavors to the table. This experience taught me that stepping outside of my usual BBQ comfort zone enhanced my enjoyment of the cruise. It’s a reminder to embrace new food experiences while traveling, as they contribute significantly to memorable vacations. So if you’re a BBQ fan facing a cruise or any trip without your favorite dish, take this as an opportunity to explore and appreciate the rich culinary variety cruises offer.
