🪔灯代表光明,代表智慧,驱散执着与黑 暗;
愿国泰民安,风调雨顺;
Volunteering at a temple during Vesak Festival can be a deeply rewarding experience that goes beyond simple acts of kindness. From my own time helping at the temple, I found that small tasks like refreshing flowers and maintaining the shrine environment can bring unexpected joy and a sense of connection. The heat often takes a toll on the delicate blooms offered at temples, and providing fresh water and care not only preserves their beauty but symbolizes nurturing the spirit. This reminds me of the phrase ‘like a simple life, steadily flowing like a creek’ inscribed in some temple surroundings—emphasizing living calmly and sincerely. Lighting lamps, another cherished custom I witnessed in temples like those in Tibet and Fuhai, holds profound meaning. Each oil lamp symbolizes enlightenment, kindness, and the spread of wisdom, illuminating the darkness of ignorance. The tradition of “passing the lamp,” where one light kindles another, perfectly mirrors how compassion and knowledge should spread across communities. Spending hours immersed in these acts of devotion fosters patience and gratitude. It transforms a holiday into an opportunity for spiritual growth and healing, resonating with the hope for peace and wellbeing for all. The gentle glow of lamps and the vibrant colors of fresh flowers create a serene atmosphere that refreshes the soul, similar to the calm and simplicity that many seek in life. If you ever have a chance to visit a temple during cultural celebrations, I highly recommend volunteering—even in small ways. The experience nurtures both your heart and the community, and the simple joys and teachings you gather are lasting gifts. This connection with tradition and family—especially sharing it with a loved one like a mother—adds layers of meaning and creates treasured memories. In essence, taking part in temple life during Vesak reminds me to embrace simplicity, live earnestly, and cherish the light within ourselves and others.
