What I ate in Almaty Kazakhstan
This is what I ate in Kazakhstan!
In this video, I’ll show you how much I spent at each restaurant and what you can expect when dining here. I also visited one of the best local Kazakh restaurants that serves truly authentic Kazakh food.
It’s a little pricier, but totally worth it — amazing service, traditional wooden plates, unique cutlery, silverware, and staff dressed in beautiful traditional outfits. They also serve the national dish beshbarmak, so you should definitely give it a try!
If you want a break from Kazakh food, Korean House is another great option — Korean food is surprisingly good in Kazakhstan. And for something more casual, Wok Wok is a nice spot for Asian fusion dishes.

During my trip to Almaty, I found that trying traditional Kazakh food is a must for any food lover visiting Kazakhstan. The national dish, beshbarmak, stood out with its tender meat and hand-cut noodles served on rustic wooden plates, making the meal feel special and authentic. The experience was enhanced by the attentive service and staff wearing colorful traditional attire, which added a cultural touch to the meal. For those who want to diversify their palate, I recommend checking out Korean House. It surprised me how well Korean food is prepared here, with fresh ingredients and rich flavors that rival those in Korea itself. Wok Wok is another excellent choice, offering Asian fusion dishes that are perfect for a casual meal with friends or family. When planning your food budget for a trip to Kazakhstan, it's helpful to know that while some traditional restaurants might be pricier, the quality and atmosphere make it worth every tenge. Additionally, local markets and street food vendors offer tasty and budget-friendly options, so there’s something for every kind of traveler. Beyond food, Almaty has amazing attractions like the Kok Tobe cable car, which offers stunning city views and is reasonable in price. Exploring the area around Abylai Khan Avenue where these restaurants are located can also be a delightful cultural experience. Remember to also check the weather for your 10-day visit to pack comfortably. Overall, combining authentic dining experiences with cultural exploration makes Almaty a fantastic destination for food enthusiasts and travelers wanting a deep dive into Kazakh culture.
