ถ้าใครกำลังหานิยายวายแนว “ข้ามเวลา + ไสยเวท + ฟีลญี่ปุ่นโบราณ” เรื่องข้ามเวลาไปเป็นหมาป่าของเซียนไสยเวทถือว่าเข้าทางมาก เพราะพล็อตไม่ได้มีแค่หวาน แต่มีความลึกลับ แอคชั่น และบรรยากาศศาลเจ้าที่ชวนติดตามด้วย สิ่งที่เราชอบคือธีม “ร่างประทับหมาป่ายักษ์สีขาว” ที่ดูเป็นสัตว์ศักดิ์สิทธิ์แบบมีพลังและแรงกดดันในตัวเอง ทำให้ความสัมพันธ์ของตัวละครไม่ใช่แค่คู่รักธรรมดา แต่เหมือนเป็นพันธสัญญาที่ต้องคุมพลัง คุมสติ และคุมใจไปพร้อมกัน ยิ่งพอเข้าพาร์ตฝึกสมาธิ/ฝึกจิต มันให้ความรู้สึกเหมือนอ่านแฟนตาซีสายพิธีกรรมจริงจัง แต่ก็ยังมีจังหวะแซวๆ ชวนเขินเป็นระยะ อีกจุดที่ช่วยให้เรื่อง “อ่านแล้วไม่หลุด” คือฉากในยุคเฮอันกับบทบาทมิโกะที่ดูแลศาลเจ้า พอมีเรื่องแม่หายตัวไปเป็นปมตั้งแต่เด็ก มันทำให้เส้นเรื่องไม่ได้เดินแค่ความรัก แต่มีเป้าหมายให้ตามต่อว่าเกิดอะไรขึ้นกันแน่ และเกี่ยวข้องกับกฎสวรรค์/เหล่าทวิภูติยังไง สำหรับคนที่ลังเลเพราะเห็นคำค้นแนว “ผมคือปรมาจารย์ไสยเวทย์” หรืออยากได้ฟีลตัวเอกเทพๆ บอกเลยว่าความเก่งในเรื่องนี้ไม่ได้มาแบบโกงตั้งแต่ต้น แต่เป็นแนวค่อยๆ ไต่ระดับ—เอลอยด์ต้องเรียนรู้การอยู่ในร่างประทับและรับมือพลังหมาป่าที่มีโอกาสคลุ้งคลั่ง ส่วนโชนาก็ไม่ได้เก่งแบบไร้ต้นทุน เพราะการใช้ไสยเวทมีเงื่อนไข มีบทลงโทษ และมีสิ่งที่ต้องแลก ทำให้ความแฟนตาซีมันดูมีน้ำหนัก ถ้าชอบแนวโรแมนติกที่มีฉากรักษา/ผูกพันธสัญญาแบบใกล้ชิด (ฉากวิชาโลหิตนี่คือทั้งลุ้นทั้งเขิน) เรื่องนี้น่าจะตอบโจทย์มาก แถมปกยังสื่อชัดเลยว่าเป็นคู่ชายสองคน—ฝั่งหนึ่งลุคทันสมัยผมขาว อีกฝั่งเป็นมิโกะผมดำในชุดโบราณ ให้กลิ่นอาย “ต่างโลก/ต่างยุค” ตั้งแต่แรกเห็น แนะนำวิธีอ่านให้สนุกขึ้น: ลองโฟกัส 3 เส้นหลักไปพร้อมกัน คือ (1) การฝึกควบคุมพลังหมาป่ายักษ์ (2) กฎของภูติและบทลงโทษจากผู้ดูแลกฎสวรรค์ (3) ปมครอบครัวของโชนาที่ค้างคาอยู่ ยิ่งอ่านต่อยิ่งเหมือนมีอะไรซ้อนอยู่หลังความหวาน และนี่แหละที่ทำให้เรื่องมันน่าตามจนอยากรู้ความจริงเร็วๆ
