Co-sleeping?

When is too old to co-sleep? My baby is 4 and he still sleeps with me, this isn't the first time but I've been trying to get him to sleep in his own room and last night it kinda worked! He fell asleep in my bed and I carried him with one of my blankets to his room. He slept in there for 6 hours before making his way back to me lol. I don't mind it really, but sometimes I miss having my own bed to stretch out in.

Mamas of Lemon8, do y'all still co-sleep or at what age did you stop? An tips and tricks or just keep doing what I'm doing (which admittedly isn't too much haha)

... Read moreCo-sleeping, the practice of parents and children sharing the same bed, is a common choice for many families due to its benefits in bonding and convenience. However, many parents wonder about the right age to transition their child to independent sleeping arrangements. Experts often suggest that co-sleeping can be safe and beneficial in infancy, but by preschool age (around 3 to 4 years old), many families begin encouraging children to sleep in their own beds for better sleep quality and personal space. Transitioning a 4-year-old from co-sleeping to their own bedroom can be gradual and requires patience. One effective method includes establishing a consistent bedtime routine that makes the child feel secure, such as reading a favorite story or using a special blanket. Creating a cozy and inviting environment in the child's room often helps ease the shift away from what many young children see as the safety of Mama's bed. Another tip is to encourage self-soothing techniques, allowing the child to fall asleep on their own, which can build confidence and independence. Parents can also try initially staying with the child until they fall asleep and gradually reducing presence over time. It is important to understand that children may still seek parental comfort during the night, even after transitioning, which is normal. Responding with reassurance while gently guiding them back to their own bed can support this change. Safety considerations include ensuring the child’s room is comfortable and free from hazards, and that the co-sleeping arrangement, if ongoing, follows safe sleep guidelines to reduce risks. Ultimately, the decision on when to stop co-sleeping is personal and should balance the needs and well-being of both the child and parents. Many moms share in parenting communities that flexibility and loving guidance are key to making this transition successful and less stressful for the entire family.

My brother and I 6 years apart and are kids of divorce. So when my parents split up when I was 4 we both started to sleep in my mom’s bed, all three of us in one king size bed lol. But as we got older and were growing my brother took his bed from his room to my mom’s room so that he could still sleep with us but have his own bed. We didn’t really stop sleeping in our mom’s room until about 4 years later when my mom started dating my bow step-dad, so we eventually grew out of it and grew comfortable sleeping in our own beds.

Shoot my daughter slept with me in my king size until she was in the 9th grade. She was scared because there's literally a zoo that comes out at night. There are a couple of families of skunks, bobcats, wild rabbits(their huge), squirrels, racoons, possums, armadillos, big owls, snakes, big wood rats and some big chicken hawks, big turtles, an occasional bear every now and then...one night a big A*s*S cow was walking through my yard. She'd get scared when the bobcat starts roaring or whatever it does, and I live in the city part of the country. I had to call for someone to come get an alligator a few months ago. I love my li'l one horse town.
