DIY Tinned Fish Candle ✨

Here is how I made the tinned fish candle! 🐟

I made these using a candle making kit + mini jam jars and fish tins! 🕯️

How I made them:

I first took all the labels off and washed the containers really well 🫧

I placed the sticker and the wick inside the containers. I melted and poured the wax to the top of each container! 🫙

I let the wax dry for about 5 hours. I then trimmed the wicks and took some pics 📸

They turned out so cute and I cannot wait to use them! 🥰

What craft do you want me to try next? 😁❤️

... Read moreThe Charm of Tinned Fish Candles: Why This DIY Trend is Buzzing There's something uniquely captivating about the tinned fish candle trend, isn't there? It takes a humble, everyday item—the tin from your favorite sardines or anchovies—and transforms it into a quirky, chic home decor piece. I first stumbled upon the idea of "the original tinned fish candle" online and was instantly hooked. It’s not just about making a candle; it’s about embracing creativity, sustainability through upcycling, and adding a touch of unexpected charm to your space. Whether you're a fan of coastal aesthetics, eclectic decor, or simply love a good DIY challenge, these candles are a fantastic project that always spark conversation. They make incredible gifts too, showing off your personal touch and resourcefulness. Diving Deeper into Your Candle Making Kit While the original article gives a great overview, let's explore how to get even better results. When using a candle making kit, pay attention to the type of wax included. Soy wax, for instance, is popular for its clean burn and ease of use, while paraffin wax offers a stronger scent throw. The wicks are also crucial; picking the right size for your container ensures an even, efficient burn. For wider tins, like some of the larger yellow anchovy tins or black sardine tins, I've found that using two wicks can help the wax melt more evenly across the surface, preventing tunneling. Always use wick stickers to secure them firmly to the bottom of your cleaned tins or mini jam jars. This prevents the wick from floating or shifting as you pour the wax. Mastering the Pour: Tips for a Perfect Finish "Pouring candle wax close up" might seem simple, but a few tricks can make all the difference for a professional-looking finish. First, ensure your wax is heated to the correct temperature. Overheated wax can lead to frosting or uneven cooling. Most waxes have a recommended pouring temperature—usually around 180-185°F (82-85°C) for soy wax. Pour slowly and steadily into your prepared tins. This helps prevent air bubbles from forming. After the initial pour, you might notice a slight 'sinkhole' around the wick once the wax starts to cool and contract. This is completely normal! To fix this, let the candle cool for a few hours until it’s mostly solid but still a bit soft. Then, reheat a small amount of wax and pour a thin second layer over the top to fill in any depressions and achieve a smooth, flat surface. This step truly elevates the look of your finished DIY tinned fish candles. Creative Upcycling Beyond Just Sardine Tins While sardine tin candles are iconic, don't limit yourself! The beauty of this craft is its versatility. I’ve used not only classic sardine tins but also distinct yellow anchovy tins and even larger black sardine tins, each giving a slightly different aesthetic. You can experiment with different sizes and shapes of tins. Beyond fish tins, consider other small, food-safe metal containers or even unique glass jars you might have. You could also play with different wax colors or add essential oils for a custom scent. Imagine a subtle sea breeze scent for your tinned fish candles, or a warm vanilla for the jam jar versions! The possibilities are endless for creating truly unique pieces that reflect your style. Showcasing Your Handmade Creations & Safety First! Once your beautiful tinned fish candles are cured and ready, it's time to display them! Whether you arrange them on a bookshelf, use them as a centerpiece, or gift them to friends, they're sure to be admired. If you're wondering, "can you show me some images?" of how to style them, think about grouping different sizes and shapes, or pairing them with natural elements like pebbles or small plants. Finally, remember candle safety: always burn your DIY candles on a heat-resistant surface, away from drafts and flammable materials. Never leave a burning candle unattended, and keep them out of reach of children and pets. Trim your wicks to about 1/4 inch before each burn to ensure a clean, long-lasting flame. Enjoy your unique, handmade creations safely!

tinned fish is love. tinned fish is life.
tinned fish has become my new obsession, definitely one of my “perfect lunches” — it’s cute when plated and so so good for the body, love that for me surprisingly, the wild cod, though good, is my least favorite — it’s just a little too subtle without a little lemon & salt. the sardines in
