last year after the storm in Jamaica
Living through the aftermath of the storm in Jamaica has been a profound experience for many of us on the island. One year later, the scars left behind have become reminders of both the storm's force and the resilience of our communities. I remember visiting the Prep. School on Long Hill, which was particularly affected by the storm. The damage to infrastructure was significant, yet the spirit among students and teachers remained unwavering. Rebuilding efforts were not just about restoring buildings but reviving the sense of normalcy and safety in the community. Many families struggled with loss and disruption to daily life, but collective efforts from local groups and international aid helped expedite recovery. From repairing homes to reestablishing essential services, each step showcased Jamaica’s enduring strength and solidarity. Personally, witnessing this process reinforced the importance of preparedness and community support in disaster situations. It also highlighted the vibrant culture of Jamaica—where music, food, and warmth continue to bring people together despite hardships. Reflecting on the year since the storm, it’s clear that while the challenges were immense, so too was the determination to rebuild and move forward. The experiences taught us valuable lessons on resilience and the power of unity, messages that resonate beyond Jamaica and hold universal importance.
