my experience;new grad jobs👇

i recently graduated from my LPN program and have started applying to jobs local to my area, i’m sure everyone knows or has heard of the “nurse shortage”. so naturally you’d assume everyone would respond almost instantly to an application!

i have applied to at-least 12 jobs and have only had 2 respond. the pay for nursing staff is ridiculous! LPN’s at our local hospitals only make $19/hr, meanwhile i was offered $26/hr at a long term care facility! why is this??

... Read moreAs a new graduate Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), the journey to secure your first job can be daunting. Many discover that despite the nurse shortage, responses to job applications can be alarmingly low. After applying to twelve positions, I only received two responses, raising concerns about the hiring process in the nursing field. One significant issue new graduates face is the consistent underpayment in nursing roles. In my local area, LPNs are often offered as little as $19/hr in hospitals, whereas long-term care facilities may provide more competitive wages, as I experienced with an offered rate of $26/hr. This disparity prompts many new nurses to question the pay structures and the factors influencing employer compensation offers. Another challenge is the interview process itself. A common theme I noticed during interviews was the repetitiveness of the questions. Employers frequently asked about my motivations for being a nurse and why I chose to apply at their facilities. While it’s essential to present genuine answers, having to repeatedly justify one’s career choice felt exhausting. Most interviews touched on benefits but lacked transparency regarding pay specifics, an essential factor for many job seekers. For fellow new graduates navigating this process, it’s crucial to advocate for fair wages and seek roles that offer transparency in pay rates along with supportive work environments. Participating in online forums and networking with peers can also provide valuable insights and encouragement. Emphasizing the importance of transparency in job offers and advocating for better pay structures can influence positive change for future LPN candidates.

Yes indeed toooo much responsibility for the higher pay at LTC facilities, no wonder why nurses avoid those places like the plague. I am an LPN in Ohio and about to just left my license expire.
